I had a look at the Mazda 6 for about 2 seconds. It cost a lot more than the Octy.
I'm looking for a wagon under $25K. I can get a 2010 118kw DSG Octavia with Sat Nav with less than 40,000km
There are not too many Mazda 6s under $25K, most have around 100,000km. Non have sat nav.
Mazda 6 has appalling fuel consumption around 8.8 vs Octavia 6.7. Mazda only gets 7kw more for all that extra fuel.
    MK4 GTI - Sold
    MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
    MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.

This is a 2 edge sword. Octy is definitely good value compare with Mazda 6, and for second hand buyer, I think it is an unbeatable value. But for new car buyers like me, it shows Octy has a much lower resale than Mazda 6. I am not surprised, considering Australia loves Mazda more than any other countries in the world.

I went to the Mazda showroom yesterday. The CX5 is pretty much eliminated from our list. The boot is too small! But, to be fair, amongst the class it is competing, ie. Yeti and Tiguan...etc, the compact SUV class, it is not bad. It just doesn't suit our need.

Also went to VW showroom, and Passat is definitely back in our list. It is definitely bigger and got a massive boot, way bigger than Octy and almost Superb standard but slightly shorter than the Superb, which will suit my wife better.

But Passat can be quite expensive still after options that we need are added. This is even considering the fact that GPS and RV camera will be standard in MY13. So B200 is still a good buy at this stage.

One side note, the VW sales consultant that I spoke to will be transferred to Skoda next week. He has no idea about Skoda. He didn't even know Superb is longer than Passat. In fact, he has not even seen a Superb so he asked me to show him my Superb. He did ask me a lot of question about Skoda though. I had to educate him and tell him about the sales pitch. That's a worry

Same problem here. We drove a Tiguan years ago for a week, it was great, if if had a decent boot we would own one. The CX5 looks the goods too but alas no boot, and diesel only available in top model for $52,000.

When I took the Mrs to the Skoda showroom to show her what I was looking to buy she saw the Yeti and loved it, but no boot. She actually liked it so much she was considering the option of a roof pod.

I got the same at the Skoda dealer, the old guy said parking sensors could only be added aftermarket and could not integrate to the Nav screen.
And the young guy, looked 17, had no knowledge of any cars before about 2008. Did not know the trim levels of different models either. I don't know how they seriously expect me to buy from such a kid, he could not make decisions on price either. He kept going on about the car that was $15K over my initial budget. Just wasting my time really.

Careful, those ones are very often ex-rental cars, so check with the seller / dealer and the service log book. You've never know how anyone has misused a DSG if it's a rental.
