    Melb RS

Hello and thanks for having me.
I'm a new Melbourne member who has recently purchased a 2010 (June 2010 built) RS wagon.
Silver, with the leather cloth seats. As far as i can tell the car is stock. It has Sat Nav and bluetooth and thats about it.

I have loads of questions regarding upgrades and i guess the first few are pretty simple.

1- there are some minor differences in maufacture years and vehicle designations ie i see that some cars are built 2010 and are MY11. When looking at sights such as superskoda, how do i know which designation suits my car?
also what differences are there from years 2009 - 2012? I'm assuming that with a build date of jun10 i dont have the 147 engine.

2- i know that skoda shares a lot of its parts with Volkswagen. is there anywhere i can see exactly what parts swap over exactly from VW to skoda?

3- Wheels - what stud pattern and offset will fit if im looking at some 19's

4- Exhaust - where is the best place to look for info on exhaust upgrades im interested in hearing noise differences and peoples experiences in doing full exhaust systems vs cat back systems.

5- interior. are ther any diagrams online that will show me how to remove door trim, radio etc. im keen on having a bit of a play with gloss black vinyl trim and some carbon fiber trim as i have seen a couple of you have done.

    1. i believe the model designation changes over after the factory holiday shutdown in july each year. i.e. august. mine was built sept 2010, making it an MY11. yours might be MY10, being jun 2010. i could b wrong with the change over, it might b earlier in the year.
u do have the 147TSI engine. that was introduced into the RS back in 2008/9 i believe.
you want to know the differences, look here.

    2. most parts are interchangeable. mainly from the golf & jetta family. in your case with the RS, specifically the mk5/6 golf gti and the mk5 jetta 147 (gli)

    3. standard vag pattarn - 5x112

    4. downpipes r easier to source as the gti downpine can b used. catbacks r more difficult, as not many prefabricated ones exist locally.
i got an apr full exhaust. its designed for the mk5 jetta. direct fit on the RS.

    5. i have link on my home pc - will find it for u & repost the link up here for ya. its very detailed.

You can get a workshop manual off eBay for ~$10

You can't get the alloy trim strip off the doors - it's pop riveted to the panel
So if you want to dress it up, need to do that "in place"

    thanks heaps for the info.
im sure ill have plenty more stupid questions.

the biggest thing i wanted to know was what parts will work.
the skoda market here in aus is tiny with very few parts etc, yet for the golf's etc there are heaps of parts and generally cheaper.
then you look at the uk market and the skoda's are huge.

it was the same with the 5 series bmw i owned....much cheaper to look o'seas for parts and have them imported.

    Carrum downs.

Just been down to peninsula autohaus frankston.
Geared up to do apr mod chip stage 1. Looking at doing a mdi (or whatever it's called) upgrade so I can run the iPod from the glove box and have radio controls. right now im just running it with the 3.5mm jack.
They are exploring exhaust options for me, prob just do a cat back system.

so ive been having a bit of a tinker with the RS and have done a few upgrades.
First up i had the APR stage 1 chip installed at Peninsular Auto House. Not cheap but biy does it make a difference.
The car is so much more driveable, this is how the car should have come from the factory!.
I'm planning on doing a Dyno of the car in stock tune, then in stage 1 tune.......and then in a few weeks when the exhaust comes and ive run it in ill do another dyno.
(im also thinking of doing a dyno day for thos in melb who are interested?)

I had a bit of a play with some carbon fiber vinyl. I got a roll of the 3m carbon and its great, but then i found a gloss finished verson by a ebay knck off company in box hill. its not as good as the 3m stuff but the finish with the gloss finish makes it look so much more realistic.

i then picked up a set of zenith 18" wheels from MTB bike mike. i'm going to leave these on till i shred the rubber and then ill be on the hunt for a set of 19" wheels.
i found a set that i dont mind at TTF. they are Lenso cq1 or qc1. but they dont have the 5x112 stud pattern avail in oz....so ill have to see what i can do.

lastly ive been wanting to put some decal down the side. i love the flat stripe into chequred look like the focus st and had a bit of a play on photoshop....im wanting something like this.....what are peoples thoughts?

top left is the carbon fiber...ive also done the radio surround.
top right is the comparison of the zenniths with the original wheels my rs came with
mid left is the lenso wheel in 19.
mid right is the focus decals
bottom is a photoshop play of how my car could look.

Have you done the "MDI upgrade" yet?

All you really is a cable for the MDI interface in the glovebox which can be found on eBay for under $20.

And if you haven't already done so, you might want to upgrade the firmware on your satnav (Columbus unit) and install the latest maps, both which cost nothing. There's a brilliant guide on how to do it all on this forum.

Those new wheels will look great on 19s with the silver. I hope it won't upset ride quality though but of anything yous hardly notice.

Tim @ Magneto Industries was the contact I mentioned for rhr graphics.

Let me know if you get more people for that dyno day, and you could also put it in the events section if you get a go ahead from the host buisness!
