If you don't have the requisite teenager, you will need to search for the location of your music library and then drag and drop the files to your SD card. Do it outside of ITunes.
No kids here, I'll have to regress for half a day. Thanks for. The tips, I reckon I can sort this thanks to all the help I've had today.

Just a quick thanks to everyone for the advice about SD cards. Now that I've tried using the SDCard I don't think I'd bother with an MDI port. The card is much easier and I like that it's concealed. A cheap option too, I spent $40 on a card and only used one eighth of its capacity. So plenty of music shopping ahead for me.

Just got myself 2 x 32 GB SD cards (Sandisk Ultra Class 10 <$19 delivered on eBay).
Copied the folders straight out of the iTunes library folder on the Mac... Bunged it in... No problem .

Anyone tried a USB splitter cable? I have a new Columbus system and was wondering if I can plug my iphone and a separate ipod or usb stick in at the same time and operate them both.

I would think that would be pretty unlikely to work. Best bet would be to use SD cards at the same time. Ebay had a 20% sale, I got a 64GB microSD card with SD adaptor for $23 shipped. What you could do is use bluetooth with the phone and have the USB device plugged in. I do that with my Alpine headunit and it works fine. If you had an ipod or ipod touch plugged in it might be a different story though, especially if Carplay kicks in.

I put some music on an SD last night and didnt really like the user interface and functionality of it. I preffered the playlists I created on my ipod. I bought a cheap spliter of e-bay so I will see if it works or not. Either way I'll keep my old ipod in there and switch it in and out when I want to use carplay on my iphone, which at this stage I dont think will be too often given how useless it is.

I have been hoping they would push out a firmware update for the headunit to allow bluetooth carplay. But that is probably wishful thinking. VW are pretty slack and are more likely to not bother updating it for some years, and if they do won't be much interested in updating any units before it unless there is a bug.

At this point in time, Apple Carplay and Andriod Auto only operates when connected via a cable. There are rumors that iOS 9.3 will allow Carplay to connect via bluetooth and hopefully it won't require an update to the headunit firmware.

It's not a rumour, it was the update last year that brought carplay via Bluetooth on iOS. It has been active for about 6mths just none of the headunits support it yet. Seeing as Skoda only started bringing out models with carplay around then they could have been proactive and built it in as they would have known for some time. But of course they didn't. I've been hoping that seeing as mine was being built last month it might be a MY16.5 feature but seems not. Then again maybe my car has lane assist and noone has checked whether there was any change yet.

So you haven't taken delivery of your Octavia yet? I had the option of waiting 3 months for a car to be delivered in the exact specs (white) I wanted or to take one that had everything I wanted but in Black now so I took the Black one. I asked the dealer if there would be any differences and he said no, they weren't making any changes in 2016.
