Maintenance and small Mod

Well the RS TDI has ticked over 75K and I've been reading all sorts of stuff about intake oil contamination due to the recirc system and turbo blowby. So I took the valve off the front of the engine intake ( connected to the EGR valve ) and had a look. This is what i found......



So I gave it a quick clean, but didn;t have time to pull the EGR off or the intake to give them a clean also. But I would imagine I need to pull from the Turbo, Intercooler through to the Intake off to give it a full on clean up.
I will then fit up the Provent200 I have ready to fit, this should help with less oil going back through the intake.

To make room to fit the provent I decided to spend a few dollars on a APR Carbonio air intake kit. Fitted it yesterday and now have a stack of room to play with. The intake noise from inside the car is still the same, but wind down the window and you can easily hear the turbo spool and intake noise. Throttle response seems a little cleaner and now that I've driven it about 100-200km's the fuel economy is settling down to be a touch better. I'm still not 100 convinced it's made the RS better, possible placebo effect, but will see how it goes over the coming weeks.

Also I will see how the motor performs after the intake/turbo clean, as it has felt a little sluggish over the pas 6 months compared to when it was newer.

APR Carbonio kit I got off US ebay, delivered for $385. It took a bit longer then expected due to the Thanksgiving holiday in the US, but still delivered in 2 weeks. Took an hour to fit up, the air box is carbon fibre so you have to make sure that it's positioned spot on so not to put any stress on it which may cause cracking.

I think one of the guys wanted to hear the induction noise, so I will throw the Gopro on the front bumper and see if the audio is any good.

GoPro's have never been that good for their audio, but I took some footage and it sounds like Darth Vader is having an asma attack. It's seriously sucking in some air when it comes on boost. I will try to get better sounding footage as there is a bit of wind noise as well.

I had a Sorento CRDi with the R2.2 engine before this Octavia. Accidentally left the air filter cover open and drove away once (Mistake, I know) but man did that thing sound... Insane.
So much air!!

I'm probably driving through Newcastle in the next few days - maybe we can meet up somewhere?
Take some footage with my SLR, or something?
