If you have no spare you stop the car beside the road and get help. If you have a bald or otherwise unroadworthy spare you put that on the car and drive on public roads with an unroadworthy tyre which may ultimately endanger not only your life but also the lives of other road users.
Now if only they could stop ****heads changing their tyres with their back to traffic and their arse hanging into the freeway...

Why is it always the off side rear that goes flat on the freeway anyway?

Camber of the road forces the debris to that side of the road, front tyre flips it upright, rear tyre cops it straight through.

Offside is drivers side isn't it?

I know what you mean about the LH rear copping all the punctures though.

Yes it relates to where the curb is. The curb (footpath) side of the vehicle is the near side and the drivers side is the off side.

On freeways it always seems to be the off side tyres that people are fixing when I speed past them.
