Lane Keeping Assist

'Drive' Just did a review on MY17 updates for the Octavia. Adaptive Cruise, Autonomous Breaking is now standard on all models. Lane Assist is now part of the Tech Pack ($3200) for the Ambition. I have now changed my mind about purchasing a VW Golf Comfortline Wagon and am going to buy an Octavia Ambition with Tech Pack. The Ambition Plus has gone with the Ambition picking up nearly all the Plus features for a $500 increase over the MY16 Ambition Price.

Do you (or anyone) know if this info from Drive is correct? I just recently purchased an MY17 Octavia Ambition, didnt happen to notice in the test drive if this feature was present, but my brochure explicitly states that the ambition is missing lane assist from the tech pack - unsure if the dealer gave me the correct MY17 brochure or not. I guess ill find out in a couple weeks when my car arrives for sure though.

EDIT: TKNick is not correct; Lane Assist is the only thing in the MY17 Tech Pack that you don't get on the Ambition - according to my MY17 Pricing Brochure.
You do, however, get it in the Style and vRS!

We picked up our first Skoda on Friday, an MY16.5 (build date 25 April 2016) manual RS Wagon with Tech Pack (and 18" black pack + auto tailgate). We drove up to the Victorian alpine region for a long weekend, so I had ample time to play with the tech toys in the car. I love the adaptive cruise, I'm very comfortable with it now.

I did play around with the lane assist, but haven't conclusively shown that it does steer you back after a few seconds. Sitting in the left lane of the Hume I deliberately slightly turned the wheel to the right to cross the centre marking into the right hand lane. Letting go of the steering wheel the car did seem to drift back into my (left) lane, but it might just have been the castor angle of the front wheels, or the camber of the road? Leaving it longer I did get the 'Caution, take control of the wheel' alarm but I think it was sooner than the previously mentioned 12 seconds. I wasn't game to ignore the warning to see what happened next!

I was also wondering about the high beam assist, given that it seems to be linked to the lane assist camera. I haven't checked my copy of the manual, but the PDF I downloaded shows a symbol on the high beam control stalk that I don't have - a high beam icon with AUTO (or similar) written on it. I too have read about enabling it with VCDS. I can't realisicly see myself needing it but it would sate by tech curiosity if I did have it. Has anyone had any luck?

Oh, and the car is a beauty on the mountain roads of Hotham and Buffalo

Wow. I used this today. Deliberate drift allowed by me (look no hands) Steered back into the lane from about a tyre width drift over the other line. Freaky !!!

It'll hold it for about 10 seconds and then tell you to put your hands on the wheel. One step short of autonomous driving.

make sure the lane assist light is green, not orange when you're expecting it to take over. Sometimes shadows or badly marked lanes with old markings can throw it off. There is an 'shortcut' button on the steering that takes you to the menu for lane assist and emergency braking selection. Make sure they are both ticked (sounds like they should be).

There is a way for the auto high beam assist to be easily switched on using OBD11 dongle but it requires 100 credits if you want to use the 'app' instead of long coding. It was one of the things that I'm trying to get working on my car if it has the ability. I'm not sure why it would be switched off in OZ, there's a fair chance it's probably to do with ADR (maybe someone else knows) and hasn't been approved so it would be 'use at your own risk'.
