    Lane Keeping Assist

    Hi

I just put an order in for a MY16 Octavia RS wagon. I discovered that the RS has something called lane keeping assist but only learned about it after I dropped the demo off. I have seen people use this feature for 'autonomous' driving on highways. When playing around with the vehicle settings, I did see lane assist but don't remember seeing a setting for 'adaptive lane assist' which is the feature that controls the steering to allow the vehicle to stay between the lines. Could someone please advise if this is a feature available for the Australian market. Link to video below.

Apologies if this topic has been disced before but I couldn't find anything on this forum through the search function.

    Thanks

    Sach

Just picked up my new candy white MY16 (16.5?) RS wagon last Tuesday! Lane Assist is now part of the Tech Pack (which mine has). Still learning how it works and exactly what it does! It does follow the lane markings (camera in the windscreen next to the rear view mirror mount). I'm not sure that it's exactly designed for autonomous driving though. It's more to correct minor drifting off the edge of the road - eg due to fatigue or distraction and it only kicks in at speeds greater than 65 km/h.
PS I'll update my sig soon!

In the Passat if you dont move the steering wheel for 15 secs an alarm comes on and a message appears in the MFD saying
Please take over steering control (or similar)
Presume rest of VW range will do the same and no you cant expect it to do the steering for you but it will guide you round a sweeping corner till the alarm goes off.

    At least mine does.

Yeah the Skoda is 12 seconds. There was a video on youtube where they jammed a 3/4 full full 1.5l bottle of water into the steering wheel to overcome the 12sec. Worth giving it a try if your interested. I got my answer though, thank you. Hopefully by 12/2015 MY16 built RS will have it. Coming all the way from WA to Canberra. Only one they could find with all the options I wanted.

Skoda aus website has no mention of lane assist for the current octavia vrs. I picked mine up 3 weeks ago and it has all the options it has fatigue detection but no lane assist. If you have ordered a certain spec from factory and receiving it in sep or later it may come updated and they just haven't changed the website yet. Are you sure you have it k_rider? What is your build date?

I think only the Scout and Superb have lane assist. And, yes, it only steers the car for about 12 seconds before the alarm goes off. pretty close to autonomous driving with the ACC and Lane Assist doing everything for you. Also, with the Superb, the ACC will take you to zero, hold you there until the traffic starts moving then start you off again. The Octavia version only takes you to standstill, holds for a coulple of seconds with a warning then disengages whether you have your foot on the brake or not. I believe it is because the Octavia uses the ABS pump to hold the brakes on and the Superb uses the electric hand brake.

Yep, absolutely! Built date is 03/16. If I get a chance next weekend, I'll take a pic of the sensor/camera at the top of the windscreen.

Looking at your sig, it turns out my wagon is exactly the same as yours! The one I bought was a cancelled order. Apparently ordered late last year and due end of March, but it didn't arrive until mid-May...

I had a bit of a play with the lane assist this weekend and I could feel it pull the car back into line if I let it drift towards the edge of the road. I didn't let it drift for long enough for any alarms to go off though - my 37 plus years worth of driving and riding instincts were kicking in well before any alarms were! I wasn't aware of the 12 s thing - still learning about all the electronic aids...

LunchboxGTI mine is the same spec as your option wise except with the 18" black pack. I am guessing yours also has a 2015 build date? Does your one have the camera at the top of the windscreen as mentioned by k_rider? It appears lane assist was available in other international markets so if the vehicle has the hardware maybe a software update will the feature.

Hmm one of the reasons I had mine built in the new year was in the offchance this was included, mine was built late Jan delivered off the boat early April. It has the lane assist in the menu items but I've never noticed a camera or assumed it had it. Certainly the dealers probably don't know.

I'm assuming you aren't getting mixed up with the rain sensor there.
