I'm assuming you aren't getting mixed up with the rain sensor there.
If there's a camera there will be a triangular cutout in the tint.

Yeah I've never seen that with a 1/16 build RS with tech pack so sach I would doubt you would have it in a 12/15 build car. Normally anything made in the new year gets the minor updates and this was one I thought I might see especially when something delayed Octavia production from the first week in Jan to the third week but obviously this wasn't it. Could have been anything. I would be Skoda Oz not fitting them though so it would make sense they might include it in the MY17 as there doesn't appear to be a MY16.5.

It appears lane assist was available in other international markets so if the vehicle has the hardware maybe a software update will the feature.
Not that simple I fear. We don't have the camera.

Yes, mine has the triangular cutout and a fairly large 'box' sitting behind (in front of?) the rear view mirror. The dealer certainly knew all about the addition of Lane Assist to the RS tech pack, as he took great pains to point it out to me!

There's also a little icon that appears on the dash indicating when it activates (goes from orange to green).

As is evident from many past posts, the Skoda website is often quite a bit behind in their spruiking of new features!

So in theory you should be able to activate Traffic Sign Recognition, if you have a VCDS or OBD11 as it works through the lane assist camera.

Pics of lane assist camera as promised. Exterior (the rain sensor is also visible to the right of the camera) and interior views. Ignore the odd spots etc on the windscreen, reflections from stuff in my garage!

By the way, I don't know if others have noticed, but there is the low res light camera used for the high beam assist on the back of my mirror. I put the etag right there so never noticed it. The option isn't showing in the menu, but apparently its often turned off in VCDS. The larger sensor you have there blocks it so they move it to the main cluster against the glass.

I was testing this out on a drive to the Blue Mountains over the weekend and I found it really hit and miss - the system seemed to drop out one of the two lanes quite often. Not sure I'd rely on it

The light sensor on the back of the interior mirror is for the auto dimming of the mirror (including exterior mirrors if you have the comfort pack - the exterior mirrors look a bit freaky when they dim, as there is a 5mm or so border around the dimming section which doesn't dim...)
I believe light assist also uses the lane assist camera, but for some reason I don't think it's enabled (seems to be an easy fix via VCDS though, along with enabling speed sign recognition, which uses the same camera).
It's kinda difficult to test a lot of these 'safety' features out, eg just leave the high beams on for oncoming traffic to see if the light assist is going to do its thing. And I'm in no way game to try out the front assist any time soon - I've found the warnings that have popped up so far to be a bit inconsistent, almost to the point of doubting that it's actually working properly.

'Drive' Just did a review on MY17 updates for the Octavia. Adaptive Cruise, Autonomous Breaking is now standard on all models. Lane Assist is now part of the Tech Pack ($3200) for the Ambition. I have now changed my mind about purchasing a VW Golf Comfortline Wagon and am going to buy an Octavia Ambition with Tech Pack. The Ambition Plus has gone with the Ambition picking up nearly all the Plus features for a $500 increase over the MY16 Ambition Price.
