Just spoke to VW Australia and was advised (oil consumption)

That with my 2012 RS Petrol Octavia I should expect it to burn 1 litre of oil per 1000 km... That seems crazy to me. They also told me to expect that kind of consumption for the life of the vehicle.
Does anyone have any info on the above? As that is way too high for my liking.
So far I've used about 1.6 litres over 7800 km since brand new in 6 months.

It's just luck of the draw I'm afraid...

My RS has never used a drop of oil in 30,000km but some people on here report theirs using quite a bit. Not much you can do about it, except carry some oil with you and think it could be worse; you could own a RX-8!

Mine dropped to the low mark on the dipstick by 5000 km, when i changed the oil myself anyway. Had the 12 monthly service recently in brisbane and it's now clocked up about 13000 km after a trip from mount isa to coffs harbour and back (with the service in the middle), but i haven't checked the oil level since.

mines needed about 1L each 5000km. as mentioned, its luck of the draw!

however, the oil low warning is very sensitive, so youre not going to run out. that said, continue to check it!

I believe that what VW are saying is that they won't consider the engine has a problem that they will address unless it is using more than 1 litre per 1000 km.

This does not mean that it is OK, just that if you want them to fix it, they won't...unless directed to by some tribunal or consumer body.

1L per 5000kms is perfectly normal and no cause for alarm for one of these cars. Most tend to do it.

I came from Japanese cars that barely used any oil, if at all!

I was shocked also, but its something with European cars. my fiat does it too. doesn't use as much, but its more than I considered 'normal'

One thing to note is that after the initial 15k service you should see oil consumption drop. Mine was about 500ml in the first 15k, then dropped down to hardly anything. My Mazda 6 used not a drop. My wife now drives the Skoda in more shorter trips and oil consumption has crept back up a bit. The length of trips plays a big part in how much it will use as well.

if it doesn't get up to temp, it will probably burn it. I was almost putting so much oil in the fiat that I could probably have just changed the filter each year instead of dropping the oil too

I never have to top up oil between 15k services, whereas some Polo GTI's (same engine) are gulping the stuff down
