My 2012 RS petrol has hardly used a drop. (Now 11,500kms since sept 30th)
My wife's 2012 polo GTI has hardly used a drop..(now 18,000 kms since June).
I think it's a bit pathetic really. My dad's 1.4 litre golf doesn't use any oil, and neither does my 15 year old mitsubishi magna station wagon. If it's within spec to burn 1 litre of oil per 1000 km there is something wrong with the design of the engine.

We have owned a German car of one sort or another continuously since 1982 and I would say our average based on well over 500,000km in them would be under to 0.5 L/1000 km.
Probably in the 1980's usage would close to 1 L/1000 Km in the days of less efficient oil and less precise manufacturing tolerances but now usage is minimal. The S3 usually has the light come on not long before each 15,000 km service so it gets 1 litre to last through to the service and my vRS (Diesel) has never had oil between services.

I check mine regularly (once a month) and have never needed to top up the oil.

My oil light came on after 9000kms. Just took it to the dealers and they topped it up - for free.
I remember them saying when I picked up the car that I might need a top up before the first service and they'd be happy to top it up.
Yep Richmond Skoda topped up mine for nothing a few times. For convenience sake I bought a 5L carton of oil and 4 yrs later still have most of it. It was only recently that I had to add any in years so suspect my wifes heavy foot and not waiting for warm up are to do with it. She is always running late each morning and flooring it up the street.
My WRX has used about 1 Lt per 5000km since new. Now with 150,000 still uses the exact same amout. It depends on the hone in the bore and the oil. If the hone is a nice deep hash pattern, you have to expect oil to sit in the grooves and get burnt.
Happy Days.
My diesel vRS has just hit 45,000km... The 45,000km service is booked for the 20th of December, so I'll probably be up around 48,000km before it actually happens.
Will get the dealership to check the oil level before they remove the old stuff, and I'll let you blokes (and ladies) know!![]()

Petrol engines prior to the 15,000klm service are the worst for it. Last I read, VW were saying 1L/2,000klms was acceptable. Anything more than that required further investigation. Also worth noting, the oil consumption test is at cost to the CUSTOMER, until proven it is proven that the oil consumption is too high. At which point, the customer will be reimbursed.
My tip? Don't drive like a Granny or do short stop-start trips early on in the car's life.
