The owners manual would probably state that its not good to drive round with recirc mode on constantly. That's why it resets. The A/C comes on to control the temp and moisture levels whilst it is on recirc mode.
"new car smell" is actually noxious fumes from the synthetic components in the car's interior. Best not to be constantly breathing them ;)

no one should b driving on recirculated air all the time. the monoxide levels increase. increased levels of monoxide can b harmful.
recirculated mode should only b used for short periods.
fresh air from outside the cabin is needed.
there is a very good reason for pollen & air filters.
Apologies for bumping an old thread, but is it possible to retrofit the HVAC controls from the lesser Octavia models into the RS?

Looking at the eject button, you would want a sunroof, right?
On the Climatronic there are 2 positions/lights on the recirc button. One is for regular recirc, and the other brings the air quality sensor into play. It took me a long time to get my head around the fact that the Climatronic isn't a standard aircon system, and to stop using it like a standard aircon system. Since I started setting it as per the table of recommended settings in the manual the "problems" I had with it are no more.
