    How To: MFSW Retrofit - 2012 Octavia VRS Manual

    G'day all,

    Have fitted a new MFSW to my VRS, below are details and pics of the process.

    Parts Required:

    I bought all these from skodateile.com

    O2f-365 RS multifunkční volant pro radio a telefon
    Sup2-182 Elektrický svazek pro multifunkční volant
    VW-427 Řídící jednotka MF volantu

    Tools:

    T15 Torx Driver
    T20 Torx Driver
    M12 Spline Tool (aka Triple Square)
    Flat Head Screwdriver

    FIRSTLY DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL!!!!!


    Steering Wheel Removal
    1. Remove upper and lower shroud from steering column. The top cover unclips from the lower, can do by hand or use a small flathead screwdriver to prize open.

    2. Once the top cover is moved just push it out the way, there are 3 T20 Torx screws fixing the lower cover located to the left and right near the stalks accessed by turning the wheel 90deg either way. The 3rd screw is near the column release lever.



    3. Turn the wheel 90 degrees, insert flat head screwdriver into recess for the airbag retaining clips from the top of the steering column, rotate the screwdriver 90 degrees to release the clip. Rotate the steering wheel 180 deg and release the 2nd clip the same way.



    4. With the airbag popped out it will be connected by the wiring harness, release the connector from the control module side and put the airbag module to the side for later.


    5. With the wheels pointing straight ahead, mark the splined retaining nut for the steering wheel for re-installation. Note that there is already centre mark on both the steering wheel and the steering column spline to show centre, keep this in mind when re-installing. Below photo is after the nut and steering wheel was removed.




    6. Remove the splined retaining nut for the steering wheel with the M12 spline tool. The steering wheel can now be taken off.


    Removing Control Module
    Note: If your module is already a highline version you don't need to change it, eg swapping to different style MFSW. Check compatibility first.

    1. Disconnect all wiring connectors. There are 4 on the bottom, one on the right and one on top.


    2. Disconnect the 2 black plastic clips at the top left & right


    3. Remove the torx screw (T10 or T15 can't remember!?) in the centre at the bottom. The module can now be removed.



    Installing Wiring Harness

    1. Take a photo of the old wiring harness installed before removing anything, the new one is very similar just with one extra connector for the steering wheel buttons.


    2. Make sure you follow the same routing as the old harness, the airbag wire goes behind one of the springs. The springs can just be pulled out and put back easily to fit the new one. (I didn't take a pic of the new one, but looks very much the same as the old one did)

    Reinstallation
    No photo's of these steps but you should have a good idea having already taken the old one off!

    1. Install the new control module on the steering coloumn, make sure all the connectors are in properly.
    2. Making sure the wheels are still straight, align the steering wheel to the spline and push on. The centre marks should line up.
    3. Install the retaining nut, the mark you made should end up in the same spot as before removal.
    4. Install the airbag module, connect the main connector from the airbag to the control module and the black connector to the steering wheel buttons, then push the module in until both clips are seated. Be careful that the wiring isn't being crushed when installing.
    5. Re-install the steering coloumn shrouds.
    6. Reconnect the battery negative terminal and go for a test drive to make sure everything works.

    Note- You will have warning lights and loss of functionality until you code the new module via VCDS. Will update this thread once final coding is completed.

    also red stitching is car porn. want to change, but id have to change everything

    You have the black trim plates - nice

    I already have the multi function steering wheel,
    I'm tempted to get this steering wheel just for the red stitching (car will go faster, right?)

    Definitely will make your car go faster!

    I've got the old one with red stitch available, no buttons though so not much use in that respect.

    UPDATE:

    Coding completed and everything functioning as expected. Massive thanks to Buckets for helping out and supplying the VCDS cable, coding took less than 10 mins to fix up. A quick test drive confirmed everything working, very happy with the results.

    Screenshots below is copied from Briskoda forums courtesy of Gizmo68, IGNORE THE ACTUAL CODED VALUE - ONE OF THE BITS IN THE SCREENSHOT IS NOT CODED CORRECTLY. I do not have screenshots of my coding but I can confirm that for MFSW functionality on mine we set:

    Byte 0 - untick Bit 6 for board computer control via wiper lever
    Byte 1 - Tick Bit 1 & Bit 3

    Very good writeup, I'm sure others will find it useful!

    Still don't understand why MFSW and manual has to be mutually exclusive...

    I should also mention that although everything works 100% function wise, on VCDS it does have an error during autoscan, something like "incorrect coding".

    Everything works perfectly and there are no errors coming up on the dash. May need to play around checking bit 3 & bit 7 off as per screenshot above. Seeing as though everything works as it should I'm not overly concerned for the time being.

    Man I so want one of these!!!

    I see you have race blue, red stitching and carbon fibre trims.....please don't tell me it's a wagon....otherwise that would have been my dream car!!!

    the perfect combo....and yes I definitely have a wagon. The dark seat trim/red stitch combo makes it look a lot better to me, unfortunate that they only brought it in right before the model finished.

    Manual I see. When did you get this if you don't mind me asking? I couldn't get a manual race blue wagon with the red stitching as there were none left in Aus. Ended up with race blue manual wagon with leather and carbon fibre trim so it wasn't all bad news.
