I had my GTR up for sale on carsales for 2 years and 1 day before it sold!! price started at 40k and after 2 years it had to go and it ended up selling for 9K! now that is depressing!!!

The prob with Octy's is that there is a flood of ex rentals etc dropping the prices down, great if you're buying but sucks if you're selling privately.

if its only a few months till you wife is back and she needs a car. forget the hassles, just continue paying for it, then she has a nice car to come back to when she returns.

Put it in storage, give to family or a mate while youre overseas.

My company offered salary packaging and I looked at the figures on selling recently and the used price put me off. The problem is that I look at the car, which is immaculate (minus some belt scuffing around the drivers pillar) and I don't want to sell it to someone so cheaply. Sorry, but if pick up a VRS for low-mid 20s, you've got the bargain of the century and I'd feel ripped off. I'll happily keep the car for another 3 years (which is something I've never done with a car, so well done Skoda).

And the used price is around what I expected after 3 years, so no complaints on resale from me.

We are currently thinking we might keep our RS longer than planned. It still is a joy to drive and no issues apart from dealers charging too much. To get the new model it would be a lot more $$$ both in buying and in selling. Ours was bought late 2008 and the initial plan is to keep it until around mid 2014 at the minimum. I have several friends and relatives who keep asking me when I'm selling it so they may sway me to give it up earlier particularly if the new RS has the goods.

    Have you heard the joke:
Man goes into a service station and says "can I have a petrol cap for a Skoda"
The attendant thinks for a moment and then says "yeah ok, that's a fair trade"

Thanks for your suggestions - I'm sure if I rotated it amongst you guys you'd be happy to share the lease payments?

It will definitely be a sad day when it goes. Seriously the bastard I've ever owned, no problems with it and those heated seats in winter are fabulous!

So, it's up for sale on Carsales, Allclassifieds and Trading Post. Only tante rest so far are the standard scam SMS messages.
