How do I tell if the Sat Nav maps are up to date

    Hi All,

I have a 2012 (Feb) Skoda Octavia (TSI 118kW) and was wondering how to check if I have the latest maps installed.

Also, with a car of this age, what maps should be installed?

I assume there is a key sequence on the the Sat Nav to check this, but then what would I know.

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

    Thanks

    Cheers
    Mike

They should have given you a disk as well. I think it's up to v4.

You can try the following. Not sure if it works or not. You can also use VCDS to find out.

"Get in the car and without turning the ignition on turn on the unit by pressing the ON/OFF button - then press and hold the setup button down for 15 seconds. This will then bring up a 'secret' hidden menu - select 'system' and it will show you the serial number as well as the Software version, map version etc."

    official factory/dealer install - v4 -2009Q1 (i believe). the equivalent to whereismaps "vw v16".
latest for vw/skoda - v4.1 (2009q4 i believe). the equivalent to whereismaps "vw v16 update"
    sad....i know.
i believe vw/skoda r due for a new one sometime this year.

as dodgey mentioned - check the map dvd u got (dealer should give u this - it belongs to u).
or u need to enter the 'secret' menu to see what version urs is running.

    Thanks for the replies,

The disk I have is V3, it is unopened, I was told told when I picked the car up in May 2011 that the maps would be updated.

The "secret" menu from dArK5HaD0w only brought up the radio setup menu.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

That is woeful updating. Even the Sensis maps can be years out with some things. Major roads like Eastlink and pretty much anything in Brisbane are still out of date even with the newest Sensis maps. Richmond Skoda claim to update maps for any car bought there free, so if you got it from there, they should update it for you.

I gave away my $900 Tomtom last year (5 yrs old model) as the $120 app on the iPhone left it for dead, and has had free updates for 2 yrs and counting now, pretty much every QTR but the best feature is the map sharing/correction as its more up to date than any sensis map...it updates all the time. I put some corrections in for Townsville that have been wrong for 5 yrs, they were odd ones, for some reason Sensis thinks you can drive across the airport landing field.....I wonder how many tourists have been led down that same dead end road....

If the secret menu only brought up the radio setup, then you will probably need to find someone with VCDS to check.

Sounds about right then. Mine was May 2010 and that was v2.

The maps can be updated, but it will cost an arm and a leg from the dealer. I think you might have to wait until v4.2 or v5 for more updated maps though.

my apologies - i meant to say v3, not v4.

i got v3 maps when i picked up mine in nov 2010.

with regards to the secret menu - did u keep holding the setup button even after the radio setup menu came up?
don't let go, keep holding it, after the radio setup menu, the secret menu will appear next.
    should work.

Did you poke your tongue out to one side and pull the ear of the opposite side? Thats also important... as I mentioned though if you got it from Richmond Skoda they update free.
