How to achieve DSG farts in Octavia RS?

    Hi guys,

I'm currently in the market for a new car, as we have a baby on the way and our 3 door MKV GTI sadly has to go. We're currently cross-shopping a MK7 Golf R and a new Octavia RS. I understand they aren't natural competitors, but I figure if we are going to make space compromises for the Golf, we may as well go the whole hog and get the R.

Anyway, my question is this: what mods are required to get the Octavia RS to make the DSG "fart" on full throttle upshifts, like a GTI or R? Does a stage 1 tune alone do it? Or a down pipe? Or a cat back system? Something else? Or is it not possible?

I currently drive a manual and cannot justify driving a DSG (as my missus would prefer) if it's not going to make beautifully rewarding farty, popping noises on upshifts.

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers
    Reece

It's the cat-back that will give you the DSG farts. You'll need a resonated system unless you want it to sound like a race car all the time.

I had a non-resonated system on my Tiguan for a couple of months and my wife hated it. Stuck a resonator in and was the best real world compromise without going to a bi-modal setup.

I removed the resonator a while ago, it resulted in some DSG fart, not all the time but it's there. I added a small resonator, DSG fart still there but very subdued. The new RS230 has a different exhaust system and it supposed to give 'sportier' sound. I've seen one youtube video and yes it does give a rather loud fart.

How much did the APR exhaust cost? Did you also get an ECU tune at the same time?

What is a DSG tune? What's the benefit?

APR exhaust is good but pricey. If you can find a decent local exhaust shop they can probably fabricate something that looks good and sounds right at around half the price. You'll need a small resonator and a sports muffler plus a set of slash cut double wall stainless tips to set it off How to achieve DSG farts in Octavia RS?

    Hi reza.

I was wondering how you found the exhaust after the removal of the stock resonator. Also, why you put a smaller resonator afterwards?
I'm keen to tweak the exhaust without going too overboard.

I found the exhaust to be quite good without the resonator however there is a resonance at 2.5k rpm, the smaller resonator fixed it up. The resonator I installed was 18 inch long resonator, it made the car sounded really good, the resonance was replace by a deep growl and gives off sporty sound from the cabin, not loud at all. The enequal length pipe of our car's rear muffler made an interesting growl. I have since revert to stock because of two things:
    1) Need some warranty claim on my car, best to present the car in stock form
    2) the glass pack inside the resonator has burned out, the resonance was back

If i'm to do it again, I'll simply replace the stock resonator with either 12 or 18 inch stainless/ceramic pack resonator, depending on your sound volume preference.

This is the video I made without the resonator:

I made another one with the 18inch resonator, but couldn't find it. I'll post it once I have found it.

    Found it:
