    Help regarding factory keys.

    Hi all,

Not sure if this goes here, was a toss up with the electrics section but please move if it's not appropriate.

Long story short, bought a car used, had 2 keys. 1 works perfectly (unlocks and starts car) the other will only unlock (immobiliser cuts engine).

Dealers I've asked want circa $150 just to look at it (before fixing anything).

Can anyone suggest a better way forward?

P.S. I don't know what my SKC is, it is worthwhile just buying the SKC scanning tool?

    Thanks.

Give Matt at Camden GTI a call.
When I was there the other day he had a mobile automotive locksmith onsite beavering away. Matt said he was brilliant and has been able to handle problems that most locksmiths wouldn't look at.

The whole key thing at dealers is such a rip off. It sounds like the key just needs electronic coding, hardly the hardest job in the world. In better days there used to be a procedure with cars themselves using the working key to program the other.
