I will be interested to see how they go. Please report back after you have used it for a month or so. They have never been a success commercially ever since Nissan first put one into a Skyline back in the early 1990s. BMW have repeatedly tried to introduce them and subsequently quietly let them slip.
Will report back
The latest BMW 3 series have the heads up display again

This was my attempt a few years ago. Not an OBD port but wired onto the speedo. Turned out to be a epic fail as its designed for a LH drive and as such had massive placement issues. Had a guy install it but he wouldn't clean up the cords. If it had been RH drive and if the cords could have been tucked away it would have been sweet-it was about 70 bucks approx.
I love them and I never had to take my eyes off the road to see what speed I was doing. In the end the positioning and the cord got the better of me and out it went.
With an OBD port on RH drive I'd buy one if anyone can find one
What a shame - it had a nice readout on the window - love the RPM gauge
Could you not pull it back from the windsreen to get it larger and higher on the windscreen?

I did a bit of a search and the same product now has an OBDii port version
360 Infinite USA : HUD, Rpm, Volt, Water Temp OBD Plug [HUD-RPM-CMC/CIF] - $129.99
As long there are no LH drive OBD II port problem (cos this will be left hand drive and I am only assuming that LH and RH drive OBD II port cords etc will be the same?) this should work well i.e. no pro installation required, plug n play and less cord issues as it will be on the RH side going down to the port? $129 USD plus postage
^ I recall them being in Skylines, from the cars you are mentioning there, you are thinking of sports models. When Skylines last here properly they were S&^Tboxes selling alongside Falcons and Commodores, we never saw the likes of the GTRs etc here back then. It was the everyday models that tried the HUDs with Nissan. The Bluebirds had an HUD as well, I remember seeing the ads on TV.
I qualify the S*&*box comment with the knowledge that my Dads company had a fleet of the last run of them as a company cars and they struggled to sell them due to all the issues and I recall them sitting around unloved for quite a while in the carpark broken down.
