Never noticed but what you say makes sense and could it be a safety thing?
Has anybody else noticed that the Xenon headlights always start on low beam regardless of the position of the stalk? If you start the car at night with the stalk pushed forward (high beam position) you then have to pull it back to low then push it forward again to get high.
I assume that this is a Xenon related thing so the lights can do their little dance every time they start.

I'd imagine it would be to save battery life. I know for a fact, you shouldn't start a car with headlights on as too much battery power goes to the lights and not the engine/starter motor. But knowing Skoda's ingeniousity, they'd probably overcome it somehow!

On older VW group cars when you start the car, the lights will trip off and back on, it's in the wiring of the switch through a relay. X contact I think they call it. Are you sure it's not the same here?

Well it appears that Skoda must actively monitor and respond to this forum.
Less than 12 hours after I started this thread I see on Briskoda that the MY11 vehicles (built from week 22 2010) will have a wiper stalk that will automatically return to the low beam position when the car ignition is turned off.
As far as the battery saving and lights flicking off and on is concerned every new motorcycle has that feature because all new motorcycles are wired so the head lights are permanently one. When you turn the ignition on the lights come on, as you push the starter button the lights go off momentarily then come back on when the engine fires.
