The Penrite enviro plus can be found at most places and from memory I got it for around $50 with an RACV discount. Its 504/507 so no dramas there and it won't break the bank. For top ups that should last a few years. I think mine used a litre or so in the first 15k and it has dropped down a lot at 30k, but still need to keep an eye on it. A friends RS that is the same age/kms but was a demo chews through quite a bit. I had a europcar 1.8TSI recently in QLD that the oil light came on at 4000k so they all do it.

    Hi Brad,
I didn't understand why we should ride the torque curve between 2000-4000rpm (apologies, I'm not at all in tune with cars - no pun intended)?

I didn't end up taking the car for a service; had to cancel as my 3yo son's concert took precedence.
I'll try the WD40 in the fuse box, as the dealership has said that the manufacturers warranty will not cover squeaks, unless its due to a faulty part.

The squeak is darned annoying too, very loud. Also there is a lot of squeak from the sunglass holder in the centre console in the roof of the car. Maybe the lubricant used is not suitable for Aussie conditions.

As far as squeaks go i find that a spray of Silicon will stop it straight away, or even some Armoral rubbed around the rubbing edges should stop it .

The turbo is pumping some pressure into the cylinders from about 1800rpm & this will force the rings out onto the cylinders & help bed them in, reducing oil consumption. The 4000rpm limit was because beyond that, in normal driving conditions, she might feel like a bit of a dcik - feel free to go beyond there if the fancy takes you. No need for full throttle, just 1/3-2/3 will be fine.

I'm trying to source some parts for my 30k 08 Octy service as he's going on his break and it will be cheaper for me to do so.

In regards to the oil, is the Penrite and Shell Oil appropriate for both the Petrol and Diesel engines? Or do I have to source the Diesel variant?

Are the oil filters available for purchase from Super Cheap or other auto stores? I heard you can use the Jetta oil filter and it does the same job.

Also, how much should I be paying for a fuel filter? Would sourcing one from overseas be cheaper?

The Penrite Enviro+ 5W30 is suitable for both engines.

What should i be paying for an oil filter? Supercheap said they have to order one in and quoted me $58!!

Is it cheaper to buy it from the dealer?

Get it from your local dealer or HSY imports for less than 1/2 of that.

Is the fuel filter due on the 2.0TDI at 30k as well?

Most likely at 60,000km as on MK5 TDI, but I wouldn't leave it as long. I did ours at approx. 35,000km and could've done it sooner. http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f28/...tml#post559371
