They sound a good idea. I'm probably going to put one on.
I am about to get my new 6 speed Manual Scout in Platin Grey. I have to suffer 5 more days in My Liberty... I am sure there is medication to lessen the pain.
I have been reading about the egr sludge and am about to get a Provent to fit it before I do too many k's
Has anyone fitted one to a Skoda yet?
Thanks

I've got one on my octavia. Great thing to do, very sensible. I do quite a few km's (about 600/week) and I catch about 200ml of oil between my 7500 changes.... 200ml of oil can make a LOT of sludge if you mix it with exhaust

I've tried researching these...
Can anyone explain it in 'laymans terms'?
I do around 600-700k's a week, also. :S

The inside of your engine breathes. It is ventilated. That is, there is an air circulation around where the oil sits.
Sometimes when it's circulating air, it also spits out oil or oil vapours. These vapours due to emission regulations are put back in to the inlet of the engine to be burnt off in the next compression cycle.
Oil you have effectively added to your fuel isn't such a geat idea. It now will hinder combustion and create carbon build up where it is not desired.
A Provent or a catch can traps these vapours and condenses them to oil, and reduces the amount that goes back into the inlet via blow by.
Hope this helps
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....
Not to Skoda yet, but I've fitted it to my T5 and it does make the difference. I've done almost 100,000km and the intake system doesn't have much deposit at all. Just don't get fooled that they improved the crancase ventilation system in the engines. It's easy to check, just remove the hose from the rocker cover that goes back to the intake and put your finger in the hose. So far every of the VW TDI's has oil inside that hose just after few hundreds on km's.
But if you keep your car only for 3 years or untill the end of warranty, don't worry about it.

Even the Provent doesn't eliminate all the oil in crankcase ventilation gases. Mann+Hummel website https://www.mann-hummel.com/company/...r=35&rec_no=68 implies the parallel cyclone separator as designed into the rocker cover gets to 80% separation efficiency and Provent about 95%. A stack of rotating disk centrifuges at 8,000rpm are as efficient as the Provent filters.
Transporter, have you noticed a difference in oil recovery from Provents on engines with different design of integral oil separators. eg the labyrinth design in 1.9 PD TDi vs 4 cyclone in 2.0 CRD TDi?

I can tell you that there was still a lot of oil in the hose from PCV to intake when I disconnected it and put my finger in it (really didn't have to) in 2010 Tiguan at 1100km from new. I'm yet to check my daughter’s 2012 Tiguan.
