The Golf wagon has been a huge sucess in Europe,as well as in the USA and Brazil, where it is sold as the Jetta Sportwagon, and Argentina, where it is sold as the Vento wagon.

It surely doesnt need to be about the Golf Wagon or the Skoda failing.
People will buy a VW who will never buy a Skoda.
The more VAG we see on the road, the better. Bring on the diversity of options I say.

"Never" ????
Maybe "not many", but some will (I'm living proof - see my sig). I definitely looked very seriously at a Golf GTI and GT TDI before buying my vRS, and I'm sure others on here did as well. IIRC someone else here bought an Octy after owning a Golf.
Or pehaps I'm mis-intepreting what you said, and you mean that there are some people who would consider buying a VW, but are such badge snobs they wouldn't ever consider buying the VAG "value for money brand" (Skoda), even though the two cars might be very, very similar mechanically.

We own a Mkv Golf and have an Octavia vRS on order. We liked the Skods similarities to the Golf, would we buy a Golf wagon? Not sure, if they made a gti version maybe.

Interesting discussion.
I drove Octavia Wagons (1.9 TDI, manual, completely without any up-speccing since they were pool cars) a number of times in Europe and was most suitably impressed.
When I ordered my Passat Wagon (125 TDI) Skoda was not even on the horizon, otherwise it would have been my choice. Why?
Value for money. Very similar equipment and build levels for less money.
Manual gearbox. Granted, after replacement of the Mechatronic unit the DSG is much better but nothing beats a manual. And it's not an option for the Passat (something VW seems to be good at, BTW - restrict options, even when built-to-order).
Would I have been worried about brand? No, of course not. Us Aussies (well, OK, I'm not by nationality but certainly by mindset) simply don't have the exposure to many high quality products, and are probably still way too deep in the F vs. H issue. Once you've experienced what is possible you never look back. A 2 l TDI does everything I need, and then some, with great economy.
Still have three years on the lease. We'll see what happens in that time, but the Superb wagon looks like a great "little" car.

I think it's a bit crappy, this is one area where the Skoda shines being the v/RS wagon. It's great value although I can see that the brand needs a bit more time to develop the looks and identity (kind of like the early Audi's) however i think there will still be fans of both.
It's just odd to have a Golf Wagon, why wouldn't it be a Jetta Wagon since they already do a sedan? Guess it's mostly the same thing but agree a GTI wagon would be good for those that need a big boot, otherwise vRS IMO.

I'll keep it in mind, but you might be waiting a while - I kept my last car for 18 years, and I like my Octy even more than that one !
There might be a few like mine sitting around dealers still, I know there have been some great prices going on some pre-FL vRS hatches not so long ago (dealers were very keen to unload pre-FL cars, IIRC drive away for $33-34,000).
