first time poster - Skoda RS

    Hi Folks

I'm a long time reader, first time poster

I recently came across a review of the new Octavia RS and being in the market for a fun family wagon I thought it was worth a look.

First impressions with the RS hatch although I'm far from a professional steerer
-Good fuel economy although being a turbo and 1400kgs @ easily achievable <10L / 100kms around town.
-Excellent ride although having 225/40R18's and a "sports" suspension.
-"Fun" and well controlled handling and dynamics.
    -Feels quicker than 7.3 secs 0 - 100km/h.
-Reasonable roomy especially the cargo capacity although being on a "small" car chassis.

    Any comments on above?

What are the servicing costs like or is it too soon for anyone to comment?

PS - DANSA I saw your car in the show room and it looks sweet in BLACK Now I cannot decide if it's the blue or the black for me - might have to see what colour arrives soonest!

    Cheers

    Hi Paul and welcome!

You where lucky to see it there, it was only in the showroom 5hrs.. Liza mentioned she had taken an order for a blue hatch, not yours by chance??

I am also very impressed with the ride, as CanberravRS has mentioned, it rides bloody well! Better in fact than the stock 2L loan car we had, with none of the floatyness, feels planted.

Good on dirt too as i found out at the w/e on 20k of dirt roads. (car is now shiny black and the front and white on the back.. )

Havent had a chance yet to fully open her up, trying to not go past 4500rpm, damm its hard tho.. Nice lot of low down torque tho means relaxed driving when you want it too.

Great car and boot is gigantic!

Good luck and if you want to meet up, let us know.

    Dan.

    Thanks for the kind welcome

DANSA - no, it's not mine yet but there are another lot coming in soon so I'm hoping to snatch up one of those. My only problem is the wife has the impression we need a big car to replace my current (VT Commy) and the Skoda is too small across the back seat!! For the amount of times we need the "bigger" car I see no reason to have it - the Skoda would be ideal.

She has admitted she loves the car except for that reason.

Yes, the midrange torque is effortless - i found myself constantly watching the speedo It was even happy to potter around in 6th @ 60km/h on the flat with no troubles when I was trying to stretch the L/100kms

Anyways - I'm hoing I can wear her down......

Just on another note - what's peoples view on the Skoda resale value compared to the VW branded product? Seems there is still a stigma associated with Skoda

    Cheers

    re Space
I picked up my folks from the airport the other day. All cases in the boot with room to spare. 4 adults plus one child with no issues at all.
Its pretty big back there, plus how often do u have 5 adults??

    re resale:
It is a bit of unknown, but im thinking that in a few yrs time, the brand will be more accepted and I think people have accepted VW which these are based on. picking the RS and getting the best price will help to minimise this .

We should have ours for at least 4-5 yrs so im not too fussed.

Im sure you can tempt her with the auto wipers/lights and the seats etc, they are great.

Yep DANSA- I agree with your comments 100%.

I guess we have a "largish" child seat on the outside which takes up the space of an adult............but he wont be in it forever!

Went and had another look and took the tape - I'm surprised that although it's 10mm narrower overall it's considerably wider inside across the back than the Mazda 6 And rear leg room is also comparable although having a 100mm shorter wheelbase than the M6. Also a larger cargo volume.....I think I'm preaching to the converted on here

Where's the intercooler - down low behind the air conditioner condenser?

    Cheers
