I think I'd pay $160 a year or thereabouts for RACV Total care and more than cover the towing and accommodation and rental side of things then put the rest of the money in the bank and self insure. What you seem to be doing is betting whether there is a major engine or gearbox failure during the extended warranty period and if I had to take that bet I'd want to be on VW's side.

Hmm... the insurance starts when your factory warranty runs out @ 100,000km and than the extended warranty takes over, right up to additional 3 years or when the odometer clicks 160,000km (total km the car traveled), which ever comes first.

Hummmm.... the way I read it it's 3 years or 100,000kms ......if you have only travelled 70,000kms in the 3 year period then its 3 years from the start of the extended warrenty or 60,000 additional to the mileage at the end of 3 years. In this case the total coverage is 130,000kms not 160,000.

Well, how will they know how many km have I done? I don't service my car at the dealer.
For me it will always be 6 years or 160,000km.

Funny that. They claim that the average car does 16,000km per year in Australia and pitch the annual service at 15,000 which means that using their reckoning the factory warranty will run out after 3 years with the average car odo reading around 45,000-50,000 km then they sell you a warranty for another 60,000 km which only take the total distance travelled up to not much more than the original factory distance anyway.
If a car does 100,000 km in three years and the owner maintains it why should it get free cover when somebody who does 100,000 km over say 6 years and maintains their car has to pay approx $2000 for the same cover?
The self insurance is looking better all the time.

Then you'll be incorrect for what it's worth.
