    EOFY Driveaway Sale

http://www.skoda.com.au/downloads/SK...icing_List.pdf (look at the drive away pricing for all models)

Skoda's end of financial year sale, so the usual discounts for MY12 vehicles. Highlights include the aforementioned Octavia 90TSI Special Edition (with 118TSI/103TDI spec on a 90TSI) for $21,990 drive away, a Fabia 1.4 63MPI for $15,990 (it is certainly a spartan special, it has no power rear windows, nor front foglamps, projector headlamps, Swing radio, full-size MaxiDot, leather-wrapped wheel, or even glovebox covers and has a whole 63kW), Yeti 77TSI for $22,000 drive away and the Superb Ambition 118TSI DSG for $35,990 drive away.

What's more interesting to me is how they've priced other Skodas, the ones that aren't advertised in the papers. A Yeti 103TDI 4x4 manual for $31,390 is a bargain to me, as is the Octavia 118TSI manual for $26,490 drive away (compare that to a new Jetta 118TSI for the same price and the Octavia smashes it on all fronts, especially equipment) and a Superb 191FSI V6 4x4 wagon for $53,990 drive away. Even a Roomster 77TSI for $19,690 drive away is superb value for money, especially considering how much space you get with that.

In my opinion, this is how they should have been priced all along. Thoughts everyone?

You may even get a better deal in July because everyone will have bought during the sale. Showrooms can be awfully quiet in July and sales reps have to sell to get paid

I know it says end of financial year, but it ends on August 31st. Weird...

A Skoda should be, at most, the same price drive-away as the equivalent VW is before on-roads. Otherwise they'll remain the niche products they are currently.

But the Head Office financial support gets withdrawn.

But you would be amazed how good a deal you can negotiate when the sales rep HAS to meet a sales target to get paid

Because of queues for "sales", many buyers end up not getting the best deal. They might get a good ticket price, but they may not get the best trade-in price, or get talked into a whole lot of extras which means the sales rep squirrels away the HO discount. They then use this when times are lean, and if you are there at the "right" time, you can get a deal that is much better than during the sale.

I'm seriously looking at getting the Octavia 90tsi SE manual wagon. Haven't been able to test drive it yet though as no one has one available to try out!

It's listed sale price is $23690. What are people's thoughts on how much could be negotiated off that price? I plan to get something in the next 3 weeks. Don't have time to wait until July.

First thing is to check if your profession/trade/employer has an arrangement with VW to give you a discount. As an example I am a Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia, and there is an arrangement for members to get 10% off the base price, plus you get heavily discounted dealer delivery charges. This costs the dealer NOTHING as VW reimburses them.

The next thing to do is get a realistic price for anything you are trading. Check this on the Internet so that you know what you should be getting before you see the dealer. If a dealer wants to sell, they may "inflate" the trade in price. You need to be aware that if you are claiming this for business or part business, you will have to pay GST, and tax on the value above your accounts book value.

Lastly, be prepared to walk. Remember, you have the money/finance and they have something they must sell otherwise it costs them. You can make a deal at any time. If the dealer really wants to sell the vehicle (and that is what they are in business to do), they will come up with a deal for you to part with your money. That is what they want.

Lastly, if you are looking for a massive tax deduction, think again. A vehicle is depreciated and so the amount you can claim as a deduction is based on the proportion of the financial year you have had the vehicle. Yes you can get the GST back straight away, but starting to depreciate the expense would see roughly 1/12th the amount you would for a full year if you bought it today. The next big chunk of depreciation will be NEXT July. This is why I say do not get spooked into buying just because it is an "end of financial year sale". The amount you can claim back is minuscule (not the TV show) just because you spent the money in the last month of a financial year.

There are dealers who will have stocked up hoping to sell during an EOFYS, but don't. Next month you might just get a great deal

Do your homework. Look up various sites on the Internet to gauge how good it is.

    Thanks for the reply.

Just to clarify a couple of things. I won't be trading anything in and will be purchasing outright. My buying something within the next few weeks isn't related to end of financial year/tax reasons, rather that I've been spending too long researching different options and am now getting pressure from wife to hurry up!

I'll check my and wifes professional groups regarding a VW group discount. I haven't heard of that before. I wonder if that kind of thing would apply during a EOFYS anyway?

I'd be keen to find out if others have tried some negotiating and how they went. My first steps going for a test drive though. Hopefully there will be one available for me to tried out this week.

Neither had I when I went to do the negotiations for my Caddy Maxi Life (I saw the dealer on July 2, 2011 when he said that I had just missed out on the sales, to which I replied, "I have the money and you the car. We can make a deal at any time."). The sales rep wanted to make a deal as attractive for me so asked if I was a member of any profession/trade to see if there was anything they could get back from VW. It's a no brainer for the dealer as it costs them nothing. As to whether it would apply to an EOFYS sale, ask and take your time and first get the base price of the car. If you are able to get a discount, take it off the base price, then take off the discounted dealer delivery charge and see how it works out. It might actually be worthwhile going for the base price scenario rather than the EOFYS scenario.

One other thing. when you get a drive away deal, you do not have choice of CTP insurer. In the main, the vast majority of these deals see you end up with Allianz, and they provide a fee to the dealer. Again, for the dealer to clinch the sale, he could/should pass this on to you as a "drive away deal discount". In my case was just over $2,000.
