So the people doing the Blue Slip on my car have just called and left a message to say they have to take some things off to be able to read the engine number. Where is it and can it be read without doing this?

Helpful into would be that it is a Pre-FL RS TSI

Apparently they have to take off coolant hoses, electrical stuff, part of the coolant system etc to be able to just read the engine number and then put it all back together again. Thanks for the surprise hour or two of labour on top of the apparently easy 30 minute job!

Yeah, it's down near the starter motor. Can't sight it without pulling stuff off.
Apparently the label with the engine number printed on it, isn't sufficient.

There is a sticker on the side of the engine (drivers side) which has the engine number on it. Its actually on the plastic cover that protects the camshaft wheel and timing belt.
Oh touche, guess whose parents just called at the local bodgy mechanic who had no idea where the engine number was. Or even where it was on the myriad of stickers in the engine bay, door fram and under the rear floor![]()
