Oh goody! 110,000km and various O-rings in the water pump have cacked themselves. The water pump seems OK but it would be stupidity to just do the O-rings because the water pump is buried under the inlet manifold.

I'm so glad I've saved servicing cost by getting the chain driven engine & not having to pay to get the belt/water pump/ pullies done every 105,000km (where is the worlds biggest "rolls-eyes" emoticon?)

i have no idea.
It's the first my mech has done but he was on the phone to another specialist & they'd done one yesterday.
Apparently I have high mileage for age & all his other Skoda customers have much less kms.
Such is life. Only the 2nd non-scheduled failure. Total non-planned work will have been $1500 after this. I don't think that's too bad.
I had a basic Corolla for the commute on Tuesday & if I had to live with that on a daily basis I would have found a job much closer to home by now.
I've got a Holden Colorado Twin Cab for the next week (car should be ready tomorrow but I have a week long training course at another site so it can sit at the workshop all week). The Colorado is pretty depressing too.
Can't wait to get the Octy back!

Try 163k (built Jan 0 I've just bought the car @160k so I don't know (contrary to service records) if the belt and water pump have been done (FSI motor) recently. My mechanic suggests every 60k, I don't know if that applies to TSI though

It's 105k/7 yrs for the TFSI and 90k is an inspection. The inspection at 60k/4yrs seems to be gone now. They all recommend changing the water pump at the same time usually. Previously it was 60k/4yrs for belt and I would have done the pump as well while they were there.
Water pump failures in the EA888 seem to be a more common fault than the norm. I had one replaced inside 10k.

The grey diesel Octy in there was having all the inlets cleaned out. They had closed up 50% I'm told.
I had a look at mine & they aren't too bad - the valve stems might have about 2mm of build-up. I've told them to give them a wash.
makes me want to set-up some meth/water injection.
