From my understanding it's a add on that reads and feeds the info back through the CAN bus to the MFD o it will work with out the radio connected, the Quadloc at the rdio end is the most convienent wayof hooking up.

This is correct, that quad lock will only be providing 12+/Ground/Can+/Can-

You could similarly pick these up from the wiring.

Sweet mod though, price is not over the top either.

If you have an aftermarket head-unit that does not have quadlock, if there is quadlock adaptor, you can put this inline. If the quadlock has been removed, ie. cut, you will need to pick up the correct wiring.

The aftermarket headunit I ordered is a direct plug and play should use the quadlock plug. WIll be awesome to finally have dvd, updated satnav, speed and boost gauge all in one without any unsightly guages or extra install. YAY.

I'm pretty keen. I'm just looking at changing my stream HU for an RNS510, and I've been thinking about guages for a little while aswell.

In my experience, a boost gauge and oil temp gauge (i'd like EGT aswell but oh well) and a decent setup would set you back nearly $300 anyway, so this unit is pretty comparable value considering you can read it all straight from the existing dash.
