    DVD/GPS Aftermarket Unit

Special Car DVD GPS for VOLKSWAGEN Jettat/Sagit (VT-DGV74 - China Special Car Dvd Gps,Volkswagen Dvd,Special Dvd in Car Audio & Video

Been quoted USD$310 for this thing which probably goes for more on ebay and the like. Might be worth the punt?

    Is installation relatively easy?

I can't speak for that particular unit but there were several threads on Briskoda about similar products being total rubbish.

Anything under $600 is probably going to have issues.
I would only buy a name brand one if it were my car.

I would not be be lowering the cars value it is where me.. Factory options always hold better value over after market. Any I have read the same reviews on Briskoda and wouldn't be trusting it as far as i could throw it.. ( and that is a long way indeed!!! )

thanks for the replies. just to clarify this manufacturer produces units for large brand names as well as being re-branded as lesser like brands that go on ebay etc. Resale doesn't bother me as i would be putting original unit back. given you can build a car pc with touch screen for not too much more i think the price is reasonable. it's just we're acustomed to unreasonable pricing in aust for electronics/gadgets oem or not.

    how difficult is the install?

The physical install should be pretty easy as long as it is the correct size and shape. The problem with a lot of these Chinese no brand units (which BTW are ALWAYS claimed to be identical to the factory units and just sold through ebay at a cheaper price but in reality never are) is the electrical connection to the can bus. If it doesn't interface to the can bus you will potentially have problems ranging from minor to the car no go.

The main issue with these knock off units is that they seem to have poor menu layouts and often some of the advertised features simply don't work.

It all boils down to whether you are happy to take the risk with the purchase. If you are go for it I hope that we are proved wrong about the pitfalls.

    if i remember correctly:-

    - it doesn't integrate with the maxidot
    - it doesn't display the dual zone climatronic graphics
(according to the chinese - "dual zone" means listening to cd/radio while viewing gps at same time!! oh boy!!)
    - it doesn't display the image when the front and/or rear parking sensors r activated.
    - touchscreen pen to operate

on the plus side, it has built-in bluetooth capability. but again, i don't believe this integrates with the maxidot.

as KIWI said - with the install, potential canbus issues may make ur car life difficult!!

You bought a brand new car, as opposed to a '96 Fairlane... Surely you can afford a genuine GPS unit?

Looks like it's really going to integrate itself nicely with your new car's electrics... Maybe 4 of the 8 speakers will work when you a play CD too!

Columbus units do crop up from time to time on Briskoda. If anybody was considering one I'd suggest they put up a wanted post there.
