Yes this is normal but very annoying none the less.
I first thought I had a fuel cut but have been able to reproduce. I now pop into M or S for such events.

Hi All,
Having issues with the dsg in my MY17 TSI ambition. Randomly, if i brake approaching and intersection or roundabout, but not fully come to a halt, and then accelerate straight away, there is approximately a 2 second delay. I contacted the dealer, and basically said what im describing is normal for a DSG gear box.
I could accept that if it was all the time, or there was a short delay when it gets confused because it had already preselected a downshift, but really, 2 seconds? That's ridiculous, and downright dangerous.
I hate driving my car in 'D' because of this issue. If its in sports mode, or manual mode, it doesn't happen, so i'm now getting into the habit of shifting it to manual as i approach roundabouts and intersection, then putting it back in D once i take off.
Do other people experience this issue? They have offered to take my car for a test drive with me in it to see the issue, but don't think there is any point as it sounds normal.

yeah this is an issue with the logic of the DSG system. I guess its best to understand the logic of the DSG, in that in drive its essentially predicting what you are doing. So if you are on the brake and coming up to a stop, its disengaging all the clutches thinking that you are coming to a complete stop, then you accelerate and then the system needs to think what it has to do..hence the delay All I do is pop it into manual mode and downshift as necessary. Its just something you get used to, and adapt your driving as such. It tends to not do it as much in sport mode I have found

Totally normal, and no slower than a manual car.
I got a dsg performance tune - it reduces the shift times by a bit. Not a cheap solution though.
I really do not think this is normal, my car doesn't do it to that extent and neither does my wife's MY 14 Golf. I agree that part of the perceived issue that drivers not used to DSG have is due to not understanding that you are driving with a sequential gearbox and if it predicts an upshift and the driver then requires a downshift there can be a delay, but it should never be 2 seconds. I've experienced a small delay at times, but definitely less than half a second.
Cheers,
Karl

Two seconds is best described as counting One thousand and one One thousand and two.
Try that and see if its actually that long. It always seems longer when you are waiting.
Usually DSG's only change down into 2nd as you cruise to a stop.
Then if you mash it a bit early it says OH S++T and has to then go into 1st
