    DSG stalling?

    Hi everyone,
It might have been discussed already, but has anyone ever managed to stall a DSG car? My girlfriend has. She said my almost-new RS stalled on a slight incline in La Trobe street. She also reported that a car was almost stalling in heavy traffic (revs dropping, vibration etc). I drove the car after that and haven't noticed anything abnormal. Could it be the same software issue as on Audis and Golfs?

My experience is that if you start on a hill, and are too quick in going from brake to accelerator, it doesn't give it enough time to slip it into gear and let the clutch out. You get a jerky motion that could stall the engine. I have even had it roll backwards on me me on a hill start. Same on flat ground in traffic, too fast from releasing brake to accelerator and you will get a jerky motion.

Treat it like a manual on hill starts. Use the handbrake just before you need to drive off and you'll be right. If you put the handbrake on too early and take your foot off the foot brake, it will ride the clutch so best to do it just before you launch. It's probably why some models haves "hill hold" button. On the flat, release the brake, feel it slip into gear and feel it let the clutch out slightly, then accelerate. Those techniques will give you a smooth transition.

I tell my wife and kids to think of it as a manual with an automatic clutch when you drive it.

My parents Golf 90tsi stalled at the lights once and also came close to stalling on a number of other occasions. Dealer did a DSG software upgrade or something and problem seems to have gone.
