    Downpipe compatability (TSI)

OK, so im researching this as I will want one soon(ish) and im not paying upwards of $1000.

According to some websites, shops and people's opinions, the TFSI and TSI downpipes are not interchangeable.

However, listings on ebay and other online shops have the same part for the TSI and TFSI downpipe. Mk5 and Mk6 are listed with the same part. There is a turbo flange available that can be used on the TFSI and TSI motors.

On BriSkoda, a member there installed an S3 downpipe successfully on his FL-vRS with the TSI motor.

A3, S3 and TT use the same downpipe.

So, this would mean that my FL-vRS would probably be able to take anything compatible with virtually any TSI or TFSI engine.

Someone please explain if I'm missing something, but to me it doesn't add up.

Can get these parts for significantly less prices in the US.

The bolt spacings on the turbos are different although most manufacturers counter this by slotting the holes.

The Octavia DP is also a different length to the GTI, S3, Golf R DP so not all DPs will be compatible. Some DPs are designed to be trimmed by the installer before adding the reducer which gives them compatibility across the board.

    Downpipe compatability (TSI)

As Tim mentioned, the down pipe manufacturers make 2 of the holes on the down pipe flange an oval shape which covers all bases regarding TSI / TFSI and K03 / K04etc.

Below is a pic of a 42DD down pipe and you can see the oval holes.

Again, as Tim mentioned, the Octy down pipe is slightly longer (i think from memory - might be shorter...) than a normal GTI one, so you will likely need to slightly modify the down pipe to mate up to your stock cat back.

Its shorter. The Cat back section extends further forward than on the Golf. We have done a few Octavias in house by trimming down a GTI DP to mate up with the stock octy cat back.

^ there you go - its shorter.

My brother recently bought a vRS Octy and i had a quick look underneath at the exhaust a few months ago - just couldnt remember off the top of my head if it was longer or shorter than the one on my car.

thanks! much appreciated for the responses guys.

I might take the risk and purchase an A3/S3 downpipe. worse case, I have to cut it and get my mate to weld it. not a huge deal.

elongating a hole isn't difficult. done that many times with my cheap Chinese parts on my Japanese cars
