    Snap!
I went into aircraft in '89. Did almost 2 years on the tools in mechanical components (VIGVs, high stage bleed valves, pnuematic rams for reverse thrusters, etc) & then almost 16 years organising/planning/designing/buying things. It's an interesting industry.

    Aha that's funny,

I cut my teeth on Diesel Mechanics with my first apprenticeship in '97 for a Volvo/Hino dealership then crossed over to Civil Aircraft working for WFL Aircraft Engineering who then merged with Brindabella Aircraft Engineering which went into liquidation just before Christmas. I worked there for 6 years running the shop when the boss was away. I completed my trade certificate doing my education up in Padstow but never really followed through with my logs. I had enough time for alot of licenses, Hydraulic, pneumatic, airframe up to 18 people, piston engine, Garret turbines, small helicopter (R22/R44) and I think even some basic avionics.
I then changed over to Structural engineering where I am now the office manager. A lot less stress and I don't have to go to work with a bag packed not knowing where I will be that night.

I didn't even bother with Basics. I was told in no uncertain terms very early in the piece that my chances of being sponsored for a licence were nill (QF Engineering - bit of an oldboys club for those that did their apprenticeships).

Not to worry, it was an interesting place for 17.5yrs & and glad I left when I did.
