i lost one of mine and im scared to call VW and ask for a new one. All i need is the key (blade part and buttons part), i can code it myself. V-Checker to the rescue!!

I wonder if you can cover this with insurance?

My insurance supposedly covers keys without affecting excess - need to remember to check it out tomorrow. Thanks for reminding me.

Usually contents insurance doesn't have a "no claim bonus" that you can loose, bonus if you can get it covered though that
