Mate, digital is for oil temp. Analouge in your cluster is for engine temp (coolant).
Finally got the chance to drive the RS since the missus uses it daily for her commute to work and I have realised that the reading on the Digital Oil Temp is different from the gauge.
For example, the other day the digital readout was telling me that the car temp was sitting at 102 degrees, but you look at the gauge and it's telling you it's a whisker over 90. The digi temp went up a few degrees but the gauge still had the same readout.
I'm not overly concerned by the issue, but curious as to whether anyone else is experience the same thing. If so, I assume the digital gauge is going to be the more accurate of the two? I just would have thought it would be running off the same sensor so they should both be giving the same result?

I don't drive the RS but I think that the analog gauge in the instruments cluster shows the coolant temperature and the digital display is as you say oil temperature and it is OK if it reads higher 100-110 in normal driving is OK and even around 120 on hot day is normal it will depend how hard you drive. I have a similar question regarding digi speedo vs main speedo in the dashboard. They show slightly diffferent speeds, by about 2-4 kph. Which one is more accurate?

I have no answer to this but I drive late model MAN trucks and they do exactly the same, the digital always shows the lower speed! My Superb though seems to be the same on both. I know the ADR's specify that the speedometer must not read slow so maybe they take the view that if it reads fast then the digital can read correctly or as close as possible. Just a supposition on my part with no facts attached.
All I can add is that in the TDI Golf, the water temp gauge points at "90 degrees" and on Vag Com that's actually anywhere from 82 to 104.
Seems a fair bit of "relaxation" for the masses built in.
