$360 landed is an awesome price, do you have a link to the company you bought it off? Also, do these fit to the bolero units aswell or just the columbus?
Was it hard to remove the head unit and etc?
Hi all.
Just thought id let you all know that i have successfully installed a Dension Gateway 5 in my octy II facelift. (MY11) .
So far its working fairly well. I also ordered the Gen 5 cradle as well..
Fairly simple to install.. Remove Headunit (columbus)
Remove Climatronic controls
Remove glovebox.
Dension supply a dual FAKRA connector which plugs into existing loom and back to the headunit.
Pull existing FAKRA connector to LHS channel to plug dension loom into Otherwise columbus wont fit back!
Route Gateway 5 connector loom to behind climatronic panel.
I ran my microphone up over the steering column via the fusebox and up the Drivers side A pillar. The mic sits on the A pillar near the roof.
Plug back in Columbus
Pair your phone with pin code 0000
Run the USB/Control box to the hole in the glovebox and mount
Mount your IPOD crade where you see fit (still havent done this - mine is currently just sitting on the floor.
Test system
Put car back together.
The IPOD connectivity is awesome. great sound quality and the phone part is also quite good (just like the fiscon you can control from the HU)
Had a few issues originally with the phone not connecting sometimes when you started the car but thats only been when paired up to my Iphone 3GS. I have had it paired to my HTC HD2 for the past few days and pairs everytime.
A few other things that are a little annoying...
If you are on a call and you unlock the car the Dension pairs up and you lose speech until you put the key in.
If you have 2 phones paired up to the Gateway there is no way of selecting which one you want to connect. It will automatically connect to the last paired phone.
I have logged a support ticket with Dension and they have been very helpful so far.
But overall im quite impressed. The unit cost me approx $360 landed in AUS with the IPOD cradle. A lot cheaper than a MDI and genuine bluetooth.

MY10 Occy vRS \\ GIAC Flash Tune \\ 19" VMR v713 \\ It's a Skoda. Honest.
Pic of it fitted would be great!
Dru.
It was fairly easy to fit. All instuctions came with it. The only thing I didn't mention was how to take out the head unit. The silver surround is just clipped on. To remove just pull from the bottom remove 4 torx screws and whalla.
It should also work the same on the bolero as far as I know. To get the phone menu on the mfd you do have to find someone with vcds or vag-com and change option 77.
I'm going to be pulling out the hea unit in the next few days to install a sub and amp to my system so I'll take some piccies for you.

Hi,
Not wanting to hijack this thread, but I am very interested in this piece of equipment (denison gateway). My problem is that being new to VW / Skoda I am very confused as to what will fit what build dates, what is facelift ect (my car is a 8/2008 build, 6/2009 compliance RS Octavia). I am waiting on delivery of a Columbus satnav system (replacing an Audience head unit) and will be talking to JMac to do his magic with the coding. Will the gateway 5 plug and play with this setup, or is there more coding to be done, or am I just dreaming?
Thanks in advance
Tom
Not sure tom
The facelift is the newer shape models that came out with the bolero/Columbus and the mfd is a white maxidot. The earlier models had a red maxidot and aren't bap canbus.
Dension do make one for the earlier canbus but not sure if it will work ok with the skodas. In fact dension don't officially support the gateway 5 on skodas.

Andymarc,
Thanks for the info. My car seems to be a bit of a hybrid, which is where the confusion stems from. It came with the white maxidot mfd, which I assume were not standard on pre FL cars. I think it may have some 'post' FL bits in a pre FL body. I have been informed by other forum members that it can't be an RS model, but that is what is written in the delivery paperwork, which is also confusing.
Do you know how can you tell what type of canbus is fitted?
Tom
No Idea tom
Here is where i bought the dension kit from
They are called Car solutions.

It seems like they have caught on and its gone up!
But if you google GWF1V21 there are a few who sell.
I bought from them coz they had EU and HK stock. Took 4 working days to get to me!
No such thing as a red maxidot on an Octavia. I had an original 2007 model in the UK and it had the old style instrument cluster with white maxidot. Red highline in VWs did of course exist until 2009.
Here's a link to a UK website - the top car listed has a good picture of the old instrument cluster with Maxidot.
