Southern Highland Wines - Welcome to Southern Highland Wines
This winery is on the main drag through Sutton Forest. Has food etc.
I was there last year at the Sutton Forest Xmas Fair and I think it would lend itself to our purpose.

I agree - this should definitely be a family event. Not that my kids will be there...
I have created a map in Google that shows four drives between Moss Vale and the coast. I have also added in vineyards (although I wonder about a map that doesn't show any other landmark). Hopefully this map works.
I like the idea of a vineyard as somewhere to stop to eat, it offers a bit more seclusion than just turning up at the Robertson pie shop. But the food at Southern Highland Wines is a bit expensive - not an issue for me, but I'm sensitive that it could be for some people. Where we choose to eat will determine the structure of the day a bit - I was thinking we could start with a meet-and-greet over snacks, take our drive and then stop, eat and socialise at the end of the drive.
Looking at the map, I plan to drive a loop of Drives 1/2 and Drive 3 during the holidays to see what's there.

Not that I'll be able to make it, but can I throw in a route suggestion (and, being a Scout owner, it does have a bit of gravel, although not rough) - Woodhill Mt and Wattamolla Rds out fo Berry are far less crowded than Berry Mountain, and nicer in their own way. Maybe 3-4km of gravel on Wattamolla Rd before you meet up with Kangaroo Valley Rd.
Otherwise, your suggestions look great, and I've done each of them many times!

I have reserved the weekend of 19-20 Feb but we will need to vote on the day. Saturday will mean bringing the kids along, Sunday I should be free.
Can we all vote on the day at this stage? I prefer Sunday 20th Feb.

Good call MarkVRS Sunday's my preference as well.
Sunday is good for me as well.
I have updated the Google map to include an option to detour along Woodhill Mtn/Wattamolla Rd.
My thinking is that we arrive at Moss Vale for a meet-and-greet, drive down and end at one of the vineyards (or any other venue) closer to the coast.
We should be firm about numbers by the 2nd week of January 2011 at the latest so that we can organise a venue.

Sunday is best for me and the 20th is free.
Placing the date on the calendar (in pencil) so that none of the family organise something else onthat day.
Gravel roads are out for me- so if we do opt for taking that route i will detour and meet back up.

I am heading to Roberson this weekend and will come back via kiama & the national park. Will let you know how busy the roads are.
Ill probably head out in Feb for a run. Car will have 1500+ k’s on it by then & should have springs / brakes sorted too.
Actually good point, after doing about 500k's of gravel driving on holiday, unless you have mudflaps on your VRS, I highly discourage gravel road driving. Because of the tyre width and the shape, the rear quater panels behind the wheels take a real beating and you end up with gravel rash on the paint. I found out the hard way![]()
