dealer says no issue: how to cover myself

i got my Octavia vrs serviced at the vw shop in Kensington Sydney and was told the turbo was leaking oil and I should get it looked at under warranty (2 years old).

dealer (north shore) says nothing is wrong

if the bearings go pop just beyond the warranty period can I do anything to cover myself now? like get something in writing? I hate telling people how they should be doing their job but feel like I am stuck between two opinions. Service place seemed pretty sure it wasn't something trivial. car is not blowing smoke (yet).

I expect the vw shop gave a receipt with itemised report detailing the problem? If not, ensure you get it in writing from them. A picture or three would assist if at all possible. Seek an opinion from another Skoda dealer or even a VW dealer, possibly someone else independent (NRMA?) should this not work out. In other words, clear documentation ideally with physical evidence.

I have found Skoda dealers to be so-so on product knowledge, VW better so far due to greater experience with the identical mechanicals. Good luck with it.

I assume you took the car and left it at NorthShore Skoda? If so, then a record of that visit and the problems you listed should be on record. Therefore you would think you would be "covered" if anything went pop in a reason time period after that inspection.

Mind you, i had my car (polo gti) serviced at that VW mob in kensington and they didn't pick up the collapsed lower control bushes in my front suspension (it was picked up during a wheel alignment a week later). They also didn't pick up the another problem in the engine bay even though it was there during the service.... Make of that what you want.

Turbo leaking oil externally is most likely an oil feed line or oil drain problem (like a fitting not tight or a leaking gasket) - unlikely to be something about to cause a major failure.

If you took the car in for service how did they find out the turbo is leaking oil?? did you complain about any issue to lead them to this diagnosis?? I'm aware of these types of engines using a small amount of oil and at times this passes through intake pipes and the smallest amount of oil can end up in the hoses which will do nothing at all and not cause a single issue this is how they may of suspected turbo leaking??. I'm not saying these fellas in Kensington don't know what there talking about i'm sure they do. But if you have taken it to dealer and have reported it to them i'd leave it at that. I think that should be enough if anything should go wrong in future which i doubt it will.

Is leaking oil visible? Oil is an internal lubricant. Whatever the reason for the appearance of oil externally, even something as simple as a loose line fitting, if oil is visible then THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG.
