my million dollar question is "how do i get the wires from the front to the middle via the centre console?" (plan A)
if i remove the ashtray, is that enough? do i have to remove the centre carpet wall/skirts?
does it involve removing the jumbo box?

plan B would involve the side door sill covers.

I'd go with Plan-A, and just run the wires up under the carpet.

Be careful with the front centre console carpet, its got a solid velcro-style securing bracket on the vehicle-rear end, but its glued on the vehicle-front end, so you can only bring it forwards and sort of fols it out of the way - not too far, though.

If you want some pics of what I mean, lemme know.

yup, i just found similar instructions to that......
"Btw something that might help you is that its quite easy to remove the panel beside center console. If you remove the ashtray (pull up gear stick gator, remove 2 screws and lift out), and look in theres 2 screws. One is for the left panel and one for the right. If you remove the left then slide the panel towards the front axel by about an inch and you can get the panel off. Theres velcro on the bottom so pop this off prior to sliding. Its also a good place to store Car kit stuff. "

i also found this pdf doc with summary of centre console components.

unfortunately i haven't had much progress as i've been sick all week - still recovering!!

anyone have some tips on how to "pull" out the door sill trims?

    pull "up" towards the roof
    or
pull "in" towards the centre console?

i've managed to position the passenger side footwell light.
unlike the rear footwells, there r no cutouts for the fronts.
with the front, u have to manually mark it out & cut it out.
next will b the drivers side.

u'll notice in the above pic the original hole i made for it - turns out that position was not ideal as the back of the footwell housing would b against some wires. i didn't want to take any chances with melting the wires, so i had to re-position an inch or so back.

Pull the trim horizontally across, towards the centre console.

That light actually looks really good.
How much did the kit cost, and how hard is it to do it all?...
I'm talking how many hours, of course. XD

thanks for that link - it does have some additional instructions & pics that will surely help
    cheers.

the footwell kit cost me $60 all up. it comes with everything (4x footwell lights; 4x footwell connectors; 1x CECM connector; 1x Earth Connector), all pre-wired in the right layout.
    its simply plug-&-play.

....just got get the trims/panels out of the way first!!!! grrrrr............

that's where all the "hours" will b eaten up - removing the trim to lay the wiring.
cutting out the holes for the front footwell lights will only take 5 mins.

unfortunately i've been sick all last week & through the weekend, so i didn't get a chance to have a good crack at it.

what i did manage to do was install & wire up the footwells on the drivers side - front driver & rear driver side.
i haven't hooked up the wiring on the passenger side. i do have the footwell lights in the spot, just not wired up.
i'm not happy with the way the drivers footwell lighting is sitting. because i cutout the soft foam, its actually bending, causing the footwell light to sit on an angle.
next time i open it up, i'll c if i can cutout the hard plastic & re-fit it there.

after removing the bonnet lever, i was able to pry open, not remove, the door sill plastic. this enabled me to run the wire down behind the bonnet lever, under the door sill carpet, to the opening flap under the drivers seat. from there i routed the wire under the seat to the footwell location.

installing the power source to pin #50 was much easier than i thought. literally, unplug the white CECM connector & plug the power wire in. it clicks in place nicely. cable tie it with the rest of the wires, and plug the CECM connector back in. the negative wire i grounded to a metal screw holding the dashboard frame.

i got the vcds cable tonight, and did the coding as per the instructions.
    central electronics -> long coding -> Byte-12: Tick Bite-5
    central electronics -> long coding -> Byte-20: Tick Bite-0

saved the settings and bingo.....let there b light!!
    woOot.

i'll eventually need to wire up the passenger side. i had difficulty sending the wire across from the driver's side to the passenger side through the back of the centre console, or behind the radio.
removing those side carpet cover thingys r the sticky point for me now. they not budging despite my best efforts.

    one day........
