Yeah the chrome grill is a shocker in my book!! Fitted my Porsche oil cap thanks lucas also fixed the photobucket pics, duno why they dumped!!

Also sent pictures to klutch republik (wheels) and they asked for better ones. Tried to take better ones, but they arent up the the stds of the pics on there site which are super slick!

A couple unplanned mods in the last couple days too. crashed my mtb and managed to rip the tendon off the last knuckle in my little finger Doh! with was the first mod. means I cant straighten the last knuckle and whilst not painful is a ****ty hobo finger now!! :0 so I spent 3 days driving around to doctors, scans, emergency, specialist, physio, doctor again, jumping through a ****load of hoops for work. And you can imagine the amount of time spent waiting....waiting...waiting aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh! second unplanned mod with all the driving whilst handicaped (had a half cast on my right hand for a few days) was I gutter rashed my wheels driving over a stupid low kerb hidden on the other side of an intersection, just to ad to my pain!

watch my stack here on youtube is you like im the rider with the blue backpack being chased, then I had a run filming, though I was distracted and it didnt last long, turn it up to hear my pain :0. also have the usual bruised ribs, skin off elbows and meat out of shin etc!

Something Ive been meaning to ask you guys, has anyone pushed the envelope as far as fuel range goes??. Once I get to 60km left it goes down to zero in about 20km, and I have managed to drive around on 0km for about 10km once or twice. The manual says its a 55litre tank and a 9 litre reserve. Is the reserve included in the 55l?? most fillups at the pump are 52-53 litres, so im either living on the edge or still have a cushy 10+ letres left

Interestingly the couple times Ive run it down to zero, with the new tank the trip meter resets at 720-740km to a tank! which would be awesome best ive seen was 760km on the highway with 60km left (was on the drive home from melb and I didnt want to risk being THAT dumbass on the side of the road . im normally getting between 530-580 between fillups, occasionally over 600

The most I've ever put in was 57L and I think the 9L reserve is included in the 55L (happy to be proven wrong). I've had more than 800km lots of times but with zero DTE.

Keep in mind it's probably not wise to drive "with spirit" once the Please Refuel light comes on - too much chance of running lean. Fine for normal driving in a straight line though.

When my fuel light comes on, its usually with 100-120km DTE, and usually after around 750-850km... But this IS diesel.
More often than not I can drive around comfortably with the light on at 110, travel 50km and have the DTE say 70-80.

My most impressive tank was 900km without the light on... Then it came on with 130km DTE at 900.8km.
Then there was the run from home to Lindfield on 3.7L/100... DTE was 1,300km(!!) after only 200km on that tank. After wasting time driving from Lindfield to the CBD, to Ryde, back to the CBD, back to Ryde and off home, I got home with a 5.2L/100km average.
Not bad I reckon... From a sports wagon.
Of course, this is all diesel so I wouldn't expect you PULP guys to get anything close to it.

I've noticed, unlike some other cars, the octavia has "R" (reserve) instead of the usual "E" (empty).
I've heard somewhere that u only hit the reserve tank once ur actually on "R", i.e. range left is zero. Hence we have 55L + 9L(??)

I'd never noticed it said "R".

My "refuel now" light usually comes on at 100-110km from empty (start of the red zone). 9L Reserve would give me a comfortable 130km before absolute empty. I don't think I could stand the "Refuel Now" flashing at me for 200+km.

I just figured the red zone was the 9L but your reasoning makes sense

    No thanks.

I had my fill of running dry back when I had the 5.9L Chrysler that was giving me 6mpg.

It would be better if the Octavia was like the Polo & if you're going on a long trip you can "burp" the tank & add extra fuel

The fuel tank has a total capacity of approximately 55 litres, which includes a reserve of 8 litres (pre-facelift) or 9 litres (facelift).

The fuel light comes on when there is less than 8 (or 9) litres remaining in the fuel tank.

The word "reserve" is referring the amount of fuel remaining in the tank, which is odd because I've not seen it being used in this context in English, so I suspect it's an artifact of the translation process.

I would also highly recommend against running the car empty (or near empty) unless it's an emergency, as it is my belief that it may damage sensitive components of the fuel system, especially the (expensive) high-pressure fuel pump, where I'm led to believe the fuel itself acts to lubricate and cool it.
