The manual says,
"The warning light  comes on after the ignition has been switched on.
If the warning light does not go out after starting the engine or it lights up when driving,
a fault exists in an exhaust relevant component. The engine management system
selects an emergency programme which enables you to drive to the nearest specialist
garage by adopting a gentle style of driving"

Does anybody know what that means in English?
Mine came on this morning. May car is booked in for it's 60k service on Friday and has now done 60,200km so I initially assumed it was just another reminder from VW until I read the manual. I'm not sure what the emergency program the management system has selected is the car drives exactly the same as normal at the moment.

BTW. Before people get excited this is not the diesel particle filter light per se. That light did not come on an has never come on on my car but maybe it's somehow related.
