Yet AGAIN, another stealership trying to justify their exorbitant servicing costs.
Yet AGAIN, a misinformed dealer representative tries to argue the point without having researched the facts, potentially giving a customer incorrect advice.
Hmm that's not quite in-line with the Trade Practices act.
A warranty claim cannot be rejected simply because you used an independent shop, unless they have used inappropriate work practices.

This is where it gets tricky. If we get our car serviced in an independent shop, then something gone wrong, Skoda Aus can simply say the independent shop used "inappropriate practices" and reject a warranty, even if the independent shop did everything by the book. By then, who is gonna fix the car?
Yes, we can always go to ACCC or fair trading or whatever government body, but definitely they'll need to conduct an investigation to see if the independent shop really carried out the proper practice before they'll order Skoda Aus to honor the warranty. In my experience, these kind of "investigation" will take weeks to months. In the mean time, you won't have a car and the inconvenience that will come with it.
This is a sad fact, and exactly why the reason dealer can charge a premium! I fully agree we are being ripped off, but as a poor consumer, we are always gonna be the loser. Therefore, many for the fear of voiding their warranty and to avoid the hassle of no car, many will go back to the dealership and get ripped off.
Has anyone tried Bryan Byrt Skoda? How much do they charge? At least with 2 dealership in Brisbane now, Brisbane Prestige won't have the monopoly.
Unfortunately due to the structure of a dealership, there is more people that a service has to pay for.
I work at a dealer, and I also tend to disagree with what was said on the previous page.
Outside services will only tarnish your 'goodwill claims' outside of the warranty period.
It's not that simple, they aren't the gods and there are easy ways to make them to play fair, should this happen, and after that they could even get the bill for the lost time, paying independent investigator and so on. I don't think that they would try something like that if they were not 100% sure that the car was indeed serviced or repaired incorrectly. And then there are the media as well.
The reputable independent has insurance should the things go wrong,
Anyone worried about this should visit ACCC website.

Yeah, only they hardly ever pay 100% of the cost of the reapir and the custumer still gets hefty bill, that covers their expenses. So, they could probably even save money buy not going to the dealer and forget about the good will. Very often people get to pay the 50% , which would be plenty to get the car fixed outside of the dealer network, but while the car is already there waiting for the approval and they lost a time and need the car back on the road and don't want to look for another workshop to fit them in.

This would be the qualified techs (other dealership) that drilled my tailgate to mount the number plate, over filled the oil at the 15000km service ( what refund for extra litre of oil)
Yes Sir the geometry was out but thats not covered by warranty and we moved the front wheels to the rear to fix the steering wheel wobble.( now car wobbles all over payed for geometry and balance but don't think the balance was carried out. checking this weekend)
Had to empty some windscreen washer water out to fit in a sachet of windscreen washer additive at additional cost. ( I had filled the reservoir the previous night and it was not required)
Sent my vehicle manuals and folder home with another customer.
Went back to the dealer to removed excess oil and get rid of burning oil smell and was offered a 10% discount for next service going back again NOT
Yeah they disappear pretty quickly. As if a dealer can ever explain why they charge double what it really costs. I feel bad as they are better off not wading into the discussion as it will always end badly for them.
Amen. Shouldn't have poked the bear. lol
