    columbus in octavia my14 question

I have an octavia my14 2013 build recently purchased.
My wife was driving down smeaton ridge in sydney and the maps were showing she was off road
I know theres heaps of info in the vw forum on the 510 but its hard to get scoda context answers.
How do you know if you have a 510?
Dumb question but holding down tuchscreen setup button didnt reveal any secret menus - I must have misunderstood instructions.
If it is a 510 then I gather vw v7 dvd will update the maps?
    Thanks

The RNS510 is for the older Mk6 Golf era VW's. The system you're talking about is actually based on the Mk7 Golf, known as the Discover Pro (but it isn't available on current Australian Golf). Skoda decided to keep the same names from the previous generation hence the confusion.

Because its a new unit, it uses different maps. I know the more basic Golf 7 nav has both V1 and V2 maps out but I don't know if Skoda has a similar V2 map, also they're distributed on SD cards and each card is assigned to a car. A lot of enthusiasts on the board are soon to be RS owners (including me) so detailed info is a little scarce.

You can find your map version by pressing the “MENU” > “Setup” > “System information”.

I just checked mine, 2014 MY14 and it has a 2014 dated map. I would suggest that you should have the 2014 map if you took delivery recently, or was yours a Demo or had the map setup when it arrived in OZ? May be worth asking the dealer.

    Yes it was a demo
I sent an email to skoda today to ask if they update the maps as part of the 1st fixed price service. No reply yet

I would think it should be done for nothing, or pretty cheap, the V7 maps for the old Columbus, RNS510 are only about $50. I'm not sure if the RNS510 V7 map would work but dare say the 2014 data I have would be the same. Still showing a roundabout in Fountain Gate which was removed a couple of years ago. Still there on V7 and whatever the designation in the new Columbus is.

Yeah the V7 maps won't work, new system. It looks like you have something similar to the VW 2013 V1 map and Smart1 has the 2014 V2 map.

Even though map updates are freely available in Europe for users to download, it seems to be dealer only for buying and installing the map here. It'd be good to know whether or not they're included with servicing.

They used to be included depending on the dealer but last I heard no more freebies. We are really in the dark ages with car GPS. Sensis push out several maps a year but the VW and other makes seem to take forever to pass them on, usually well outdated and charge the earth for them. My tomtom app on my iphone has had free updates several times a year for going on 5 yrs now. Hyundai give free updates as long as you service with them (as well as ongoing RACV support, or premium for the pricier models).

Either way demo or not they should be able to give you the current maps if you bought it recently.

Getting the run around a bit - No reply from skoda yet
Rang the salesman and he said contact the service dept.
Service dept doesn't have an udpated disk and said sales pre-delivery responsible. Also said map updates are not part of the service plan.

They tend to respond fairly quickly if you leave a negative remark on their Facebook page.
