    Columbus maps - stopped working

    Hi guys,

I need a bit of help..
The maps on my Columbus unit stopped working.. (2012 Skoda) Everything else works, radio, cd, phone, but the screen on maps is black though the features are working (I can click on gps viewer or a couple of other things but the map is not displayed).

I have tried to reset the system <>* a couple of times, no luck.
I have tried restore from System - no luck.

    Any thoughts?

It could possibly be a hard drive issue, but thats only a guess.
What map version do you have?
If you don't have v7 installed would be worth trying to update.

I am not sure what version I have, the CD I received from Skoda dealer it says it is 2012 version.

How can I update to the v7 version? Apologize if this is a silly question but I only got this car 1 month ago and I am new to all these and woman on top of that

Your maps will be older then.
You can't force the unit to reload the same map, only upgrade to a newer version (there are ways around this but out of scope of this discussion.)
You can get the latest available v7 maps from your dealer, or order online from forum sponsor JKU.
I would try to load the latest maps before taking further steps in case there is an issue with the HDD and the unit continues to function without having to replace the HDD and/or reload firmware to repartition it.
If the new maps won't load successfully I would go back to the dealer and have them deal with it under warranty.

Thanks Kamold, I will contact my dealer to try to obtain an update version as this is what they promised me when I bought the car.

I think I found the problem, I am off road and no satellites.. It shows 0/13 available satellites.
Any thoughts how this can be fixed?

If you have a clear view of the sky then you might need to check the gps antenna connection under the seat and behind the rns but if under warranty take it to a dealer.

In future when you want to update maps,

You get the CD/DVD from dealer or JKU, put the DVD in the columbus and it will automatically start updating. Just leave it in there for a while. It doesn't say when it is finished. If you go for a hour drive or something, it will be done. If you drive for 5 mins, it may not. The unit will use the latest version it has access to. So it will use the new DVD for navigation until it has copied everything across then it will use the internal Hard disk.

PS . V5 does not have speed indicators/signs in the top right (? left) of the screen for the road you are on, V6 does, V7 has penninsula link on it and some other new roads.

Finally, when it is all sorted, go to Kamold's very good write up in the forum on custom POI's and add all the speed cameras and other things you may want like service stations, banks etc.

I got V5 when I bought the car in April 2013, and V6 came out 2 months later. I now have V7.

Being offroad wont make the slightest difference GPS works everywhere it can see the sky regardless of where you are on the planet.

Kamolds advice sounds to be on the button regarding aerial.

You have found the end result but not the source of the problem.

Has anyone been vacuuming under the seats or similar.

Thank you Kamold, I have parked the car outside, checked antenna.. everything seems to be fine, still no satellites... I have to go back to the dealer though I do not like the idea of no having a car for a couple of days...

Thank you Spud75, very good info in your post!
It means I have v6 cause I remember seeing the speed limit in the top right corner.
