no notable performance to be seen with CAI, unless you spend the big $$ on a fully sealed box and get a custom tune to match.
more noise though
Hi,
I was wondering what sort of benefits installing a CAI would be?
Does it give the octy different intake note?
It would be good to get a louder turbo whistle to give it a bit more presence while taking off.
any experience with this?
currently i just run a kn panel filter, this is more out of habit than for performance reasons

+1 on no performance increase.
i still have stock CAI with my stage 2+.

Now that you say it, I've been blowing a bit of blue fog out the back during WOT in first and second, so only when pulling so hard im spinning. I have a K&N in the stock box, but the blue only happened after the down-pipe and stage 2... I've wondered if not enough air is getting in since the tune so it might be running rich under WOT, but the MAF should correct for this... John @ Tigersoft Performance said that UP TO WOT the MAF regulates the fuel/air ratio, but OVER WOT it doesn't regulate??? Something along those lines..
Anyhow, if anyone knows a good intake for $2-300 let me know, CBF making one anymore. I'm not concerned for the cold air, but I do want the growl!!

Tyre smoke????
Not sure I understand the meaning of over WOT..... WOT is WOT, there is no over WOT.
The ECU adjusts the fuelling with input from (insert many inputs here) inclding the MAF and throttle input - but, it certainly will change the fuelling as the measured air mass flow changes, regardless of the associated throttle input.
The point I was trying to make is that if the hotwire MAF is dirty (with filter oil, however minute the deposit) it will change the reading, the ECU will be getting the wrong info and the AFR will be wrong.

It's common for tuned cars (without a wide band O2 sensor) to blow black soot
This is most noticeable when changing gear and when flooring the throttle from a continous speed.
Note - it should be a black soot - not blue smoke
I expect the stock air intake is fine
Nonsense... You can't be more Wide Open Throttle than Wide Open Throttle

Apologies, you know what I mean. Its definitely blue and its not buring tires. I can see it behind me as well as I have been told a few times.
Anyway, trying not to hijack a thread to much lol
