    Chrome tips discolouring - cleaning

RE: Twin exhaust tips on my RS
So .... any tips on how to
    - clean up discoloured exhaust tips?
    - Coat them with anything to slow down discolouring?

I use this stuff from Mequiars on both the S3 and vRS diesel exhaust tips plus the headers on my motorcycle exhaust it works really well. The S3 exhaust discolours way more than the vRS for some reason.

I use a metal polish by P21s that is great stuff, polished up a mates SR5 hilux nudge bars that were well discoloured and they turned out nice. Takes a few goes and some elbow grease but works a treat

If you want to slow discolouring, I believe you can get a metal sealent once it's been polished.

This happens because of heat. You can restore the chrome finish, however to do this it has to be "pickled" in acid to re-expose a surface that has chromium. Heat then depletes it and you have to go back again and re-pickle it.

So basically the discolouring is because of heat. You can try and slow it down, but the only real way is to reduce the heat, but that is not always possible.

Autosol metal polish is great on chrome, stainless steel amd aluminium. Come in a tube like toothpaste and since you use only a small amount it lasts a long time. You can buy it at the usual car places like Autobarn, Super Cheap, etc.
