Changing the steering wheel on a 2009 Octavia VRS

    Hi Everyone,

I've recently bought a 2009 Octy RS Wagon and do not have steering wheel controls. I have found a couple of wreckers who have steering wheels from the 2012 model in stock which is identical to mine, but with the controls. They are asking around $295 for it.

    First off, will this fit?

Secondly, if yes, how hard is it to change over?

Thanks in advance for helping out, i'm still a bit of a dud with these cars but am learning slowly

    Cheers!

    Cheyne

Having done something similar on my superb recently, I believe that you would need the multifunction steering wheel module as well as the wheel. If you are interested I have the multifunction steering wheel I took off my car up for sale.

    Thanks AUSL,

Do you have a picture of the wheel?

Also, will this change anything related to the head unit? I'm about to fit a Pioneer AVIC-F9310BT and am about to order the CAN accessory from Stinger. Fitting this wheel, from memory, may change the accessory i need...

Ausl why did you remove the MFSW? I think here was also a thread on here where someone posted how to do it including pictures. Can't remember if it was in the occy thread or in the Tiggy thread?

I wanted paddles, hence the upgrade to MFSW with paddles from the existing 4 spoke . I'll take some pics and post it tonight.

Changing the steering wheel on a 2009 Octavia VRS

There's a big thread on this including DIY (if you're game) over in Tiguan section as we don't get paddles either

Here's the link to the Tiguan thread: Flappy paddles steering wheel in Tiguan

The process should be the same for the Octy.

Cheers Tigger. I knew I'd seen it before somewhere.

One annoying thing I find with the RS MFSW – I often catch the volume dial (one on left) with my palm when exiting a suburban corner – when the wheel is turned more than ½ turn.

Cheyne, can I ask where the wreckers are? I'm after some undamaged neptune wheels
