    Canton USB default

Every time I plug my iPhone into the USB port on my vRS to charge it, which is often, it defaults to music and starts playing the first tune on my song list, no matter if I have other music playing, it just takes over.. I just want it to charge and not default to "must play music on this USB device now" every time it is plugged in.
Any advice from all the knowledgeable people out there?

My aftermarket Alpine unit does the same thing, really annoying. I think its a made for iPod legacy from years back.

In the instructions for the Columbus unit (Media section, under Bluetooth player), there is a Caution that says "Do not connect an Apple device via Bluetooth and USB at the same time, as this may result in a malfunction".

I'm guessing the two are related and there's not much you can do about it.

The USB outlet spec says it can only supply 500mA, and it's also probably not designed as a charger, so the charge rate is probably not going to be optimal... you'd probably be better off buying a small car charger as it will solve this problem and probably charge your device faster as well.

    Thanks Nick
But funny that the phone seems to charge faster through the USB in the car than from a USB connected to a land power outlet.

It's not a charger, it's simply there to connect a media player via USB i.e. iPod

You have to buy a cigarette lighter charger to charge you phone.

    End of story.

Mine charges the iPhone using the standard USB cable.

The brochure specifically mentions the USB port will charge a device.

Mine has never worked since day one. Plug a phone into it and nothing happens.

Your statement is simply incorrect as my phone charges every time when connected via the USB port.
