Can anyone help me shut Mrs Columbus up during phone cales?

I don't know if I'm dumb or the set up is, but every time I seem to be on the phone (RNS 510 Bluetooth of course) the sat nav doesn't mute or stop the directions which Mrs Columbus interrupts em all the time which is as annoying to me as it it to the person on the other end of the phone.

I have tried many things in the set up menu, but I really want a setting like "mute directions during phone calls".

I there such a thing or do I have to continue to cancel my nav on every call?

If its anything like a rns510, you can do it.

setup - nav, nav announcements or something like that.

I just find her rude generally. Needs a good spanking. Now Miss Irish in my TomTom - yummy. I wish the RNS510 had custom voices.

You know your love life is in a bad way when you start lusting after your sat nav voice.

Ha! Not quite lust, but I remember downloading some custom voices on my old Tom Tom. John Cleese was the best "No, no you blithering moron, make a bloody U-turn". At least it made a trip more interesting...

Seriously though, I have tried everything I can think of to stop her talking during phone calls. I spent 30 minutes yesterday waiting for my appointment to show up going through the Phone, Nav, Setup and Tone menus as well as the book. There is nothing that seems to imply 'Shut up during calls'.

I hardly ever use my sat nav. I'm beginning to wonder why I got it

OK, so I now have my new car!!!! Woohooo!!! Just a couple of questions on the Columbus system though.

    1. Does anyone know how to watch DVD's on it? I put the DVD in and it loads up fine and then goes to the menu screen on the DVD, but I can't then hit the chapter button on the Columbus system as it's whited out for some reason. I've tried a few DVDs and it still doesn't allow the chapter button to show up to then play the DVD?

    2. Also, my manual says that I have an equaliser in the radio button, but when I push the radio button and then pan down to the bottom (where the equaliser tab should be) there's nothing there? I'm missing the last two tabs that are shown in the manual?

Can anyone shed some light on either (or both) of the above please!!! Thanks.

    1. Tap on the video to bring up the OSD, then press the button that brings up the on screen remote control, where you can press arrow keys and Enter. Works the same as a normal DVD player where you can't use the skip buttons to skip the main menu and start playing the movie.

    2. Press the Tone button on the unit and you should find the EQ in there.

PS I have the RNS510 which could possibly be slightly different.

Yeah I know, just being extra safe =)

Couldn't remember if the buttons on the side of the unit were exactly the same as well
