Bluefin remap adds approx 30kw. Is that at the engine?

2-If the dealer fills up the petrol tank with 95ron, I drive the car home, download the stock map, send it off to the Superchips, will it change the program they write for the engine to suit the lower 95 ron fuel?
I will email Superchips to find out.

1)147kW at the fly. The 30kw extra will be at the fly too - so expect about 20kw-23kw extra at the wheels. I wouldn't sweat about the numbers. It's all in the drive.

    2) The stage 1 map is quite generic & Superchips won't do a specific map for your car - that's why it is cheaper. It's written for 99ron IIRC but your knock sensors will wind back some timing & boost & add a bit more fuel to compensate if it detects detonation.

The unit I did the other day, the car had ~97ron with 2.5% ethanol in it. We went out & did some timed acceleration runs immediately after instal & had 2 big detonation moments (way beyond any pre-ignition I've experienced before). Then it settled down & was all good.

I'd recomend you do the instal & then "drive normally" to allow the ECU to relearn your driving style. Don't worry about what fuel is in there at the moment but use 98ron in the future.

Also, don't use the programme off the CD, the IP for the server is wrong. Download the latest version from the Bluefin website.

Read this & if you want to know any more, just ask

As it's a 2.0, it will be 98ron. Crazy to run anything else despite what the book says.

    This petrol thing has me amused. I do 25,000km a year - use 1750L on 98ron a year which costs $2200. That's a premium of $270 over ULP92, probably $100 over 95ron.
My depreciation costs every year are 30 times that.

My swmbo has gone xmas shopping today - she'll spend a thousand without even batting an eyelid. $100 for better fuel is a no brainer.

re the John West Tuna: I'm getting a funny "hesitation". I thought it might be fuel but realise now it's the front tyres doing micro-slips when cold.

    Loving the torque.

agreed on the 98. Curious thats all. I find it funnny that they even sell "Standard" or whatever it is called in this country.

There are thousands and thousands of European and Japanese cars out there that all ping their heads off with Mr and Mrs entirely not interested in cars or mechanical sympathy, complety ignorant of what that funny noise is and the damage that can be done. Then they wonder why a head gasket etc caused probs down the track.

Back to topic - good to here that the cars pulling well. Will be interested to hear what longer term impressions are.

    Thanks for the update.

Inside the fuel flap of my wife's RS it just says 95min, no mention of 98 at all (built Feb 0. By contrast my GTI (built Feb 07) says 98 with 95 in brackets. Not that I've ever put 95 in either of them.

That's what I did, and 18 months later it hasn't missed a beat.

Weird, mine definitely says 98 and when I was researching them in the early days Briskoda said 98, wonder why we have some that are different and are their different tunes?

Back on topic. Bluefin doesnt work on windows 7 64 bit.
Plug in to car to load factory ecu map is super simple.
Couldnt get it to upload on w7 pc.
Lucky we have a laptop running xp. Left it uploading to superchips while I took the dog for a walk and email advising ready to download when I got back. not bad time wise. Just need to load it back on the car in the morning then go for a run up to Lake Mountain to run it in
Had one too many cold ones tonight.

You are a week late. I was up that way shooting bikes last Sunday.

BTW: I did 8 minutes from Gerratys back to the main road junction at midnight on 31 January (last full moon) so there is a target from you to see if a vRS is faster than a bike.
