I also had the smelly feet smell with my MK2 octy VRS too - yes there is a pattern of smelly Octys !

Changed the pollen filter, which was filled with leaves and dirt and what not and ran the car on recirculate after a good long squirt of Glen 20 for 10 minutes.

The charcoal filters you can find on ebay, or just get it from the dealer - call around. Best to get the model off your filter from your car -
they are not too expensive.

You can have a go at changing it out in 6 months time but I suggest just taking it out every couple of months and give it a shake and vacuum. Must be real dusty where you are and it's getting very clogged up. Mine has lasted 12 months and is still OK.

Flat rate time for a cabin filter change is 0.4hrs. Multiply that by the labour rate, and add it to the cost of the filter.

Yep, same problem here. Smell is indicative of water sitting in the system obviously a poor drainage design no 2 ways about it. I've never changed the cabin filter on a 2009 Mazda (owned for 6 years), a 1996 Skyline (owned for 12 years), a Viva (owned for 3 years), a corolla (owned for 7 years), a Honda Accord (owned for 6years) or a 1988 Skyline (owned for 3 years). And never had them smell. Owned an Octavia for 10 months and it smells like a wet dog form the air-con. Come here and it's a common problem. That's a design problem.

Most of those cars you've mentioned don't have a cabin filter anyway.

I can usually leave mine in for around two years, and not need to replace it, however the one in my van at the moment, has lasted about 8 months. No big deal. Small amount of time and money to replace it, and everything is good again.
